Capricorn Metals Ltd is an Australian based gold producer. The company operates within two distinct project areas within Western Australia: The Karlawinda Gold Project is operational in the Pilbara region; and the Mt Gibson Gold Project is a development project located in the Mid-West region.
We are seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent who is eager to play a pivotal role across multiple projects. Fundamental to the role will be an excellent working knowledge of mining Health and Safety standards, reporting and training. You will pose strong leadership qualities and traits that allows you to effectively influence others to display the correct values, behaviours and actions. You will have the ability to bring people together and have a team working to achieve continuous improvement of our Health and Safety Management System.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide direct functional leadership, performance management and development of Health, Safety, Medic and Emergency Response team members.
- Support the company’s audit and assurance framework, ensuring we are operating to company standards, best practice procedures and relevant legislative requirements.
- Advise on WHS matters on a proactive basis and support line management.
- Prepare data and report on safety performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate incident investigations to ICAM level and implement harm minimisation strategies.
- Maintain WHS contactor management obligations.
- Collaborate with site leadership teams to identify training needs and develop tailored solutions to address skill gaps and enhance performance.
- Plan, organise and undertake OHS, Mine Rescue and general training as required.
- Support and mentor the implementation of safety committees, prepare and conduct toolbox meetings and communication of safety related material.
- Utilisation and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets as required.
- Support the companies Injury Management including return to work program.
- Actively develop and promote a mature safety culture across the region and lead by example.
Business Improvement:
- Assist with the Strategic Safety Planning for the projects/company.
- Identify and participate in Continuous Improvement Projects.
- Identify areas of safety and health deficiency or non-compliance.

Qualifications, Experience and Other Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years’ mining WHS experience and demonstrated and proven Safety Lead/Superintendent experience with at least 1 year in a similar role.
- Operational experience in mineral processing or fixed plant maintenance highly regarded.
- Ideally Tertiary Degree Qualified within the H&S area or Advanced WHS Diploma, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience developing and implementing WHS management systems.
- ICAM (or similar) lead Investigator (Essential).
- Certificate III - Mine Emergency Response Rescue (Essential).
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Essential).
- Certificate IV Health Care or Diploma of Paramedical Science (Desirable).
- Safety Auditing qualification and understanding of Work Health and Safety Act & Regulations (Essential).
- Drug and Alcohol Testing (Desirable).
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and WHS databases.
- Strong proactive communicator with individuals and teams.
- Substantial understanding and working knowledge of Western Australian WHS legislation and industry standards.
- Strong understanding and capability in hazard identification and risk assessment including ALARP principles.
