Position Description
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
House coordination is a crucial role within a L’Arche Community and as such the person needs to be a good role model for all members of the Community. The House Coordinator is responsible for the way in which the vision of L’Arche is lived out. Primarily this is about creating opportunities for a rich home and personal life for each of the household members. The House Co-coordinator will develop a deep understanding of each member with a disability. The House Coordinator is responsible for the household’s management, implementation of individual programs and team operations. The House Coordinator is also responsible, at the Community level, for supporting the life of the Community and encouraging the participation of household members in this life.
The House Coordinator will liaise closely with the Community Leader in carrying out the role. To enable this to occur, the House Coordinator will meet the Community Leader at regular intervals which would generally not exceed two weeks.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
- Spend regular times assisting members in their home.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Assist members to live out the goals and dreams in their current RCD’s.
- Liaise with families on a regular basis.
- Ensure that documentation is current and systems are well maintained in each of the households.
- Coordinate household tasks with the team of assistants to ensure the wellbeing of members
- Facilitate team meetings
- Assist with the planning for, scheduling and management of assistant’s leave.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- HOUSE MANAGEMENT:
- Offer support for House management duties including shopping, cleaning and contributing to an atmosphere that creates a happy home life for members of the household.
- ASSISTING MEMBERS:
- To develop mutually transforming relationship with household members and advocate on their behalf as necessary.
- To work with the members and the household teams in the design, implementation and review of members with disability programs, i.e. Remembering, Celebrating and Dreaming process and daily routines.
- To liaise with parents and families of the members with disability in conjunction with the Community Leader.
- To encourage engagement of members in activities and relationships in the wider society and to see that a healthy balance exists between Community and outside interests.
- LEADING A TEAM OF ASSISTANTS:
- To schedule, direct, co-ordinate and supervise the work of each House Assistant within the framework of a team that shares responsibility.
- To conduct professional accompaniment and annual review meetings as required and in consultation with the Community Leader.
- To assist the team to provide each new Assistant a household orientation and induction. This will include a profile of the individual needs of each Member with a Disability.
- To plan and conduct team meetings with the Community Coordinator.
- COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To support and participate in the general planning and organisation of the life of L’Arche Bendigo.
- To encourage the integration of all members of the household in Community meetings and events.
- To welcome visitors to the household and to the Community.
- To provide support to the Community Leader in specific tasks as requested.
- ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Be able to demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Assist the Community Leader with the monitoring of audit requirements.
- Offer advice and support for HR matters.
- Assist with the scheduling and following up of meetings.
- Monitor the documentation of incidents and management of risks.
- PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- To participate in professional development programs, meetings and functional accompaniment as requested.
- To keep abreast of current developments in the disability field.
- To keep abreast of current L’Arche developments though attending formation.
- To engage in probationary reviews of new Assistants at 3 months.
- To undertake the annual review of each household Assistant each 12 months.
