The opportunities available
Due to an internal relocation to another State, a retirement, an awesome promotion + a newly created role, we are recruiting a number (4) of permanent, HSW Specialist positions in Melbourne. Locations available are Melbourne CBD/Inner,Melbourne Bayside, Melbourne North-East and Geelong (the Geelong role is part-time – 2 days pw - the other roles are full-time)
About the roles:
The positions are stand alone HSW Specialist roles and pure safety and wellbeing (no injury management). They will have a dedicated site to support with the quest of providing coaching and leadership to the executive team in the achievement of HSW objectives and goals.
In addition to the Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs) for this role (listed below), Stakeholder Engagement is a significant focus: the HSW Specialist is required to successfully influence at the senior leadership table and deliver coaching and practical guidance to all management levels.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Provide direction, support, guidance and leadership to the Hospital Executive Team in the achievement of HSW objectives and goals.
- Build capability and enhance accountability for safety amongst managers, supervisors and HSC members through coaching and influencing.
- Display and promote HSW practices through active field-based leadership and engagement.
- Drive safe systems of work, quality incident investigations and the delivery of visible and felt leadership through the implementation of education, coaching and monitoring programs.
- Consult with managers, supervisors, HSC, contractors and third parties on brownfield and operational safety issues, and provide advice and assistance in identifying opportunities and solutions that enhance HSW outcomes.
- Participate and contribute to risk management activities; including facilitating risk and workplace assessments, contributing to the development of SOPs, conducting control verification, participating in assurance activities, and leading LTI investigations.
- Conduct performance monitoring activities, such as preparation of site HSW reports, and develop, implement, and monitor gap closure plans in consultation with Hospital Executive Team.
- Monitor and review Site HSW performance with Hospital Executive Team to identify and act on trends, hotspots and celebrate success.
- Participate in regulator site inspections pertaining to HSW.
- Participate and contribute to State and National delivery of strategic programs and initiatives, forums and advisory committees to drive HSW improvements.
- Drive standardisation in systems and processes through actively contributing to the successful development and embedment of National Safety and Wellbeing programs.
What we’re looking for from you:
- Several years of demonstrated experience working in a Health and Safety role
- Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety (or higher)
- Incident and Investigation training (e.g. ICAM or similar)
- WHS Management System and Auditing experience
- WHS Incident Investigation experience
- Knowledge of applicable WHS Laws and Regulations
- Valid Victorian driver’s licence
- Current COVID-19 vaccinations (min 2)
