Instructional Designer and Trainer

Be instrumental in developing and delivering educational resources to improve the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in their workplaces, accessing healthcare, and participating in sports.

  • ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs is looking for a passionate and accomplished person to develop and deliver LGBTQ+ inclusion education to support its 3 membership programs (Pride in Diversity, Pride in Sport, Pride in Health + Wellbeing).

What’s ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs you say?

ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs (APIP) comprises 3 organisational support programs that drive LGBTQ+ inclusion within; Australian Workplaces (Pride in Diversity), Australian Sport (Pride in Sport) and Australian Health and Wellbeing Services (Pride in Health + Wellbeing).  In addition to the provision of subject matter expertise and support, the three programs facilitate the delivery of cutting-edge educational content in LGBTQ+ inclusion to member organisations, with a view to improving the knowledge, understanding, and confidence of their staff and improving the culture for LGBTQ+ people.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The role sits within the Quality, Training and Research unit, which provides industry-best research and educational content, to support the vision of the APIP division and its programs. Its key role is to ensure all divisional offerings are relevant, current, and accurate, and delivered consistently, to oversee all training content, index processes, data extraction, manipulation, and reporting, across all programs and all external research partnerships and outputs, ensuring currency, accuracy, and consistency of message across all training modules, all programs and fee for service offerings. 

The Instructional Designer and Trainer will support educational content development and design, across the 3 membership programs. In addition, the position will provide support to the membership programs by the facilitation of any of the standard educational content as required. 

The Instructional Designer and Trainer is essentially an expert in development and delivery of educational programs, targeting different audiences within organisations, supporting the recommendations of the membership programs. You will work with the program leads to understand who their key audiences are, what the key learning objectives are, and develop a recommended training plan for an organisation, plus the resources to support the plan.

You will:

  • Work with subject matter experts to develop all training content for all Pride in- programs (PID, PIS, PIHW). This includes accompanying resources, decks, facilitator guides, etc.
  • Work with subject matter experts and Pride Training to assist in the creation of content for any eLearning programs developed on behalf of Pride in- programs or that will be utilised by Pride in- programs.
  • Working collaboratively with subject matter experts as required to ensure all curricula is current, evidence-based, and ethically delivered, with a particular focus on community safety and potential triggers. 
  • Ensure currency, accuracy, and consistency of message (where appropriate) across all Pride in- training modules.
  • Support implementation of new/changed content for divisional staff via user acceptance testing, socialisation of initiatives, and ‘train-the-trainer’.
  • Support the design and content management of endorsed trainer programs 
  • Provide back-up training to support the team during peak activity. 

Who are we looking for?:

  • At least 3- 5 years of experience designing and developing engaging training materials, centred in creative and innovative design.
  • Strong track record in developing facilitated learning (face-to-face and webinar), backed with relevant collateral, e.g., PowerPoints, job-aids, and facilitator’s guides.
  • Experience delivering structured, flexible, relevant and interesting training sessions and assists all learners, regardless of level, to achieve their training goals in both face-to-face and webinar formats.
  • Confident public speaker and educator.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills, including computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated application of best practice learning methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, COM-B, 70:20:10) in the design of learning solutions and assessments.
  • Ability to think creatively, identify and explore new training concepts and best practice approaches to support the development of learning initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communications skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Proven track record in quickly building and maintaining trusted and respectful relationships across diverse teams and key stakeholders. 
  • Ability to collaborate, seek understanding of conflicting views and work towards win-win solutions without comprising quality or evidence base. 
  • An understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and in particular challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people within the workplace, sport and/or health + wellbeing settings.

What’s the remuneration and working details?: 

Salary:                 Commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.

Location:            ACON’s Gadigal/Surry Hills (Sydney) Office, with flexible working options a possibility.

Hours:             Full-Time (76 hours per fortnight) on a 2-year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension.

We offer flexible working arrangements and a generous array of entitlements often above the National Employment Standards (NES) including:

  • Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
  • Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – access to a comprehensive counselling service free to employees.
