Our Solid Waste Strategy 2024 delivers economic, social, and environmental benefits to the community now and into the future. Our Waste and Recycling Centres will play a key role in achieving the strategic outcomes to sustainably manage the city’s waste. 

At the City we consider our waste to be a resource! Our Waste and Recycling Centres (WRC) serve around a million and a half visitors and process over 100,000 tonnes of waste per annum. Helensvale and Merrimac WRCs receive between 200,000 and 300,000 visitors per annum. We are focussed on improving recycling and resource recovery, and minimising waste to landfill. 

We are committed to recycling and transforming waste management within the City. The waste business is under going significant change in order to achieve Solid Waste Strategy 2024 targets, we are looking for committed staff who are passionate about the environment and can implement change. 

About your new role

This position will assist to supervise teams at multiple centres across the City to improve safety Culture, operating efficiencies and customer satisfaction. It also supports the City to reduce waste to landfill through waste and recycling centre options, to achieve the strategic targets, improve the customer experience and increase recycling.

What you bring to your new role?

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting the City to reduce waste to landfill through waste and recycling centre options, to achieve the strategic targets, improve the customer experience, and increase recycling. 

To be successful in this role, ideally you will have: 

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills and is someone that enjoys building positive relationships 
  • Have a passion for leading and mentoring others to succeed 
  • You are enthusiastic about sustainability and can influence and promote recycling and reduce waste to landfill 
  • A familiarity with technology i.e., iPad to record data and report on assessments, and Outlook for emails, etc. 
  • You are someone that enjoys the physical nature of the role and can satisfactorily perform the duties of this position 
  • Ability to work outside of core business hours, including weekends, on a rotating rostered basis 

You will be required to work at multiple locations across the City and weekend work as part of a mandatory roster including extended hours as required. Rosters may vary as required, with consultation, to meet operational demand.
