About your role

As a project accountant at UNITA, you will report to and work closely with the financial controller, supporting and managing various project accounting tasks across the business.

What your days will look like

• Ensuring smooth implementation of project accounting activities – including but not limited to, overseeing operating expenses for each business unit, manage claims and overseeing payments.
• Using project accounting software and other tools to effectively track labour hours and monitor project progress.
• Verifying accuracy of GP reporting in relation to construction projects and develop per project cash flows.
• Preparing financial reports and ensuring project finances align with project goals and objectives, including financial preparation for monthly BPR/board pack in conjunction with the GMs.
• Overseeing business unit activities and reporting of the revenue, profit, and risk.
• Preparing and uploading end of month accounting entries and adjustments, as part of end of month reporting process.
• Ensuring budget checking is performed accurately and aligning the data with Netsuite at a project level.
• Working with the delivery team and management to provide analysis on any movement in project GP’s, and communicating business unit profit and loss with management.
• Reviewing client data within NEXVIA to ensure the client portal is accurate & up to date at all times.
• Monitoring the completeness and accuracy of supplier records and master data.
• Performing monthly reconciliations of balance sheets and subsidiary ledgers.
• Supporting the month-end closing processes to ensure organised, complete, properly approved packages are delivered to the financial controller in accordance with the end of month closing schedule.
• Providing timely responses to requests for finance information, which supports the effective management and control of department financial matters.
• Participate in the annual internal and external auditing processes, ensuring that appropriate systems are in place and maintained. Provide documented evidence and calculations are available for all audit requirements.
• Adjust timesheet errors when required.

What you will bring to the role

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project accounting.
• Tertiary qualified in accounting, finance, commerce or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP.
• Demonstrated experience with a project management software eg Nexvia.
• Experience with Power BI is desirable but not essential.
• The ability to identify and suggest areas for financial improvements for the business.
• The ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, in a friendly and professional manner.
• Attention to detail whilst working to deadlines.
• Contribute to a positive team culture and professional work ethic.
• Experience in the construction industry is desirable but not essential.
