About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated professional to fill the role of Manager, Operations based in our Brisbane Office. As the Manager, Operations you will provide day to day operational support to the General Manager and across the office. You will be using your experience in team management to deliver a high level of leadership, management and coordination to a high performing team of rail safety officers.
This unique regulatory role sits as a conduit between senior leadership and operations to effectively provide both strategic and operational management support for rail safety to the General Manager.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Support the General Manager in all office operations.
- Provide a high level of leadership, management and coordination to a team of rail safety officers.
- Maintain and deliver a regulatory work program which aims to monitor and enforce compliance to the Rail Safety National Law.
- Lead and manage complex regulatory functions including but not limited to the following:
- Audits and Compliance Inspections
- The issuing of enforcement notices
- Projects as required by the General Manager
- Provide recommendations to the General Manager, on the day-to-day management of office operations and its continuous improvement.
- Assist the General Manager with the development of management strategies and/or procedures to meet national objectives, as well as oversee and coordinate the delivery of these strategies and/or procedures.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders to assist overall business improvement across ONRSR.
- Other duties as required.
About You – Your Impact and Contribution
To be considered for the role you will need to possess a strong understanding of regulation (preferably rail safety regulation) along with demonstrated experience working as a people team manager. This role will require a mature, confident and proactive personality to quickly gain trust and lead our close-knit team.
You will need to contribute to a diverse team demonstrating initiative and adopting a collaborative approach in the work environment. To be successful in the position you should have:
- Proven ability to provide leadership and mentoring in a team environment.
- Possess self-motivation and flexibility of approach.
- Highly developed skills in the area of work program planning and delivery.
- Highly developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively consult, liaise and negotiate with internal and external customers and rail transport operators and to facilitate their cooperation and support to achieve desired outcomes.
- Management level experience (ideally within the rail industry or similar regulatory environment).
- Able to make well-informed decisions and adopt work practices to meet changing work requirements and situations.
- Working knowledge of the rail industry, including an excellent working knowledge of the principles of integrated safety management systems, risk management, and their application to railway operations and the Rail Safety National Law.
- Ability to manage a regulatory function in a manner that is consistent with industry needs and government objectives, including the ability to provide operational input into policy and legislation development and implementation.
You will be required to work on and around railway environments so you must be willing to undertake field work that may be outside of normal working hours and will require some interstate and remote work travel. All rail safety offices are required to undergo a category 3 rail safety worker health assessment.
