Job Description

In this role you will:
- Take the lead in managing media relations to cultivate positive coverage and enhance the City of Stonnington's standing.
- Coordinate media opportunities, execute our media strategy, and ensure creative content delivery.
- Edit Stonnington News, provide expertise in external communications, and lead a team for impactful outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Communications and Engagement to offer strategic advice to the leadership team.
This is a hybrid role, which means you can work both from home and within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern, where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building.
As a permanent employee you also get access to our wellbeing program, employee assistance counselling program and receive 17.5% additional pay when on annual leave.
Desired Skills and Experience
What you'll need to thrive:
- Demonstrated expertise in navigating media challenges, leading successful communication teams, or possessing a decade of journalism/editing experience.
- Proven leadership, a proactive approach, customer-centricity, and meticulous language skills.
- Tertiary qualification or extensive journalism experience required; familiarity with local government operations preferred.
- Driver's license mandatory.
- Adobe Creative Cloud experience desirable.
