Our purpose is to improve work health and safety and reduce the risk of work-related fatalities, injuries, and illness in Queensland workplaces.

We work with industry and assist businesses to create a safe and healthy culture in Queensland places of work.
We do this by:
- Making sure work health and safety laws are followed.
- Investigating work-related fatalities and serious injuries.
- Educating workplaces on ways to comply with legislation.
- Taking legal action when work health and safety laws are broken.
- Educating employees and employers on their legal obligations.

A vacancy currently exists within the Compliance and Field Services team for an Operations Manager who will be responsible for managing teams of construction and industrial inspectors across the Bundaberg and Maryborough offices. The position can be based at Bundaberg or Maryborough.

We seek to improve work health and safety, through regulatory and policy frameworks and the provision of evidenced-based services and advice. As an Operations Manager within Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ), you will be part of an efficient flexible and responsive team that strives for safer workplaces.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a team of Inspectors in a regulatory environment
  • Interpret and apply complex legislation
  • Identify and enforce breaches of legislation
  • Produce and review briefs of evidence
  • Educate a very board range of industry sectors to ensure they are compliant with Work Health and Safety legislation
  • Work autonomously and be part of a high functioning team
  • Be adaptable and lead significant workplace change

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Strong complex writing skills or demonstrated ability to be able to read,interpret,apply and elementise legislation in a regulatory capacity and a demonstrated ability to write investigative reports
  • Prior demonstrated experience in applying workplace health and safety protocols, community enforcement or other such regulatory enforcement would be highly
    regarded
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills, including the ability to deal with and diffuse conflict and liaise with the community around sensitive matters
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and lead others.

This role will challenge and develop your ability to engage with stakeholders, lead others, partner and educate the community in safety matters and ensure compliance within a regulatory framework.
