As the Payroll Officer your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide high level support to the Payroll Coordinator for the fortnightly processing of Council's payroll, ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time whilst ensuring compliance with relevant local government legislation, taxation and superannuation legislation, regulations and industrial awards.
- Provide full coverage for the Payroll Coordinator in times of planned and unplanned absences.
- Be the central point of contact for field queries and respond to queries from TSIRC employees for payroll related information, providing excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly.
The right person for the role will possess the following:
Essential:
- Certificate III in Business Administration and/or a minimum of two (2) years experience in a large multi-disciplinary organisation undertaking payroll processing and administration.
- Knowledge of the Local Government Awards, Industrial Relations Act 2016 and Council policies relating to employee / employer entitlements or the capacity to gain this knowledge quickly.
- Well-developed organisational, time management and prioritisation skills, demonstrating a high level of accuracy and attention to detail with a proven track record of completing responsibilities within strict time frames.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and proven achievement in providing quality advice and an excellent standard of customer service when dealing with issues which may be of a sensitive or highly confidential nature.
Desirable:
- Experience in using complex payroll software such as Technology One or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- The ability to be culturally responsive by demonstrating an understanding of the issues affecting Torres Strait Islander people and communicating with sensitivity and effectiveness.
