Role Overview

Are you the ultimate people-person? Do you exist to enrich the working lives of others? Do you generate an immense level of satisfaction – both for yourself and your colleagues – with your approach to people and culture?

Joining our National Corporate team at our Sensei Group level, you will be accountable for the successful operation of our People and Culture (human resources) function within the Sensei Group. As the People and Culture Business Partner, you will bring experience in managing the whole employee lifecycle – from recruitment and onboarding, to professional development and employee satisfaction, through to salary reviews, training, cultural initiatives and offboarding. This is a critical role, building on existing HR capabilities within our business, and you will be responsible for taking us to the next level as an organisation in this space. You’ll have an uncanny knack for forecasting issues before they become issues, and you’ll be a strong advocate for our team members. A deep understanding of relevant HR legislation and a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion, together with a compassionate and energetic attitude, is essential for the successful applicant.

What your day may include:

  • Be the ultimate advocate for Sensei team members, ensuring their needs are understood and catered for. Live the value ‘We Care Deeply About People’, to ensure Sensei remains a great place to work and thrive.

  • Manage the Sensei employee lifecycle.
    • Ensure all staff members understand their place in the lifecycle – where they are, where they want to be, and how they can get there.
    • Ensure that managers are empowered to have productive discussions with their team members throughout the employee lifecycle.
    • Engage with all members of staff to improve the employee experience of working at Sensei. Manage our twice-yearly Employee Net Promotor Score process, and present feedback and insights to the executive team.
    • Manage the twice-yearly 360 Degree Feedback process for staff members to provide feedback on their team members; present results and insights to the executive team.
    • Provide constructive inputs on how we might improve the overall engagement of the business for Sensei employees.
    • Manage the quarterly presentation of HR metrics to our CEO.
    • Act as an investigation officer as required.
    • Manage performance management process as required.
    • Resolve employee relations issues as required.

  • Manage the recruitment process at Sensei.
    • Advertise roles where required via our HRIS, ELMO to a variety of advertising forums (Seek, LinkedIn etc.).
    • Interview candidates at Round 1 and make recommendations for further interviews.
    • Manage the interview process, engaging with interviewers for feedback in a timely manner.
    • Create new employment contracts via ELMO for sign-off as required.
    • Work with external recruiters where appropriate.

  • Manage the onboarding process by ensuring the new starters have all of their newbie needs checked off then continually checking in with them in those first few critical months to ensure they are settling in.

  • Understand and communicate Sensei’s legislative obligations within a people and culture context.
    • Facilitation of the education, promotion and awareness of EEO, Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination and Code of Conduct.
    • Advise and assist on matters relating to Workplace Health and Safety, including Return to Work and Workers Compensation.
    • Take ownership over certain internal policy documents.
    • Ensure that a safety-first approach is taken in performing all duties.

  • Identify and communicate relevant training opportunities for our team members.
  • Draw attention to and keep our internal training hub updated to ensure relevant opportunities are advertised.
  • Facilitate your own soft-skills training with the business.
  • Manage the twice-yearly Performance and Development Plan (PDP) process.
    • Use ELMO to launch and run the PDP process each calendar year.
    • Ensure managers are empowered to have productive and insightful discussions with their team members.
    • Communicate relevant trends from PDP discussions to the executive team.
    • Improve the PDP process to ensure it remains a vital part of the Sensei employee experience.

  • Manage the yearly Sensei remuneration review period, ensuring Sensei salaries remain competitive, but in-line with relevant benchmarking.
  • Manage the yearly Talent Management and Succession Planning process with our People Leaders.
  • Manage Sensei’s HRIS system ELMO to ensure our Recruitment, Onboarding and PDP processes run smoothly.

  • Manage Sensei’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
    • Identify other opportunities Sensei might be able to “give back” to the wider community.
    • Organise relevant events (e.g. step challenges) to raise awareness and funds for our CSR partners.

  • Participate as a member of Sensei’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee, taking on actions as required.
  • Participate in relevant activities relating to offboarding of staff including conducting exit interviews.
  • Manage Sensei’s cultural and pastoral care initiatives.
  • Organise social events.

Sound interesting? Here’s the key skills set you’ll need to qualify:

  • 5 years+ in a human resources function. We’re looking for someone to ‘take the next step’ with us and grow themselves, while they help grow our business.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, human resources or psychology.
  • Experience working within a professional services team.
  • Experience managing recruitment and identifying awesome people.
  • Understanding of relevant HR legislation and workplace laws.
  • Outstanding communication skills. This is critical as you’ll need to communicate tricky corporate concepts to a wide audience.
  • Experience working with and managing a HRIS (ELMO would be ideal).
  • Attention to detail and the ability to achieve multiple tasks in a short time frame. No two days will be the same, and our pace is beyond fast.

The accountabilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the position.

Values and Benefits

Interested in applying? Here’s what we value:

  • You genuinely want to make a difference to the way our people work, and you have a positive outlook on life.
  • You're not afraid of hard work. Curly challenges. Sometimes inconvenient hours.
  • People trust you. When you are handed a problem, they feel confident that you will resolve it.
  • You're comfortable with change.
  • During your interview, you’ll be able to tell us the capital city of Bolivia :)
  • You're going to write an amazing cover letter for this role.

… and here’s how we roll at Sensei:

  • Influence the way you work with flexible work arrangements.
  • We recognise that life is easier when cash flow is easy. That’s why we’ll pay you weekly – not fortnightly or monthly like other companies.
  • We’ll help with you support your family – get up to 4 months Paid Parental Leave at full salary for primary carer (not including government-funded parental leave).
  • Be mentored and keep learning – grow your career – we want you to be with us for a long time.
  • Transparency – we’re open about what’s happening in the company, where it’s going, how it’s performing.
  • Stay Connected – BYOD policy, mobile allowances reimbursement program.
  • Get lots of extra goodies like food, drink, discounts and more.

Now it’s time to do something about it!  Go on, reach out and have an initial chat with us to learn more about the role and tackle any questions you may have to confirm Sensei is the right place for you and your talents.
