STS Leeuwin II, Australia’s largest sail training vessel and Western Australia’s only tall ship. At Leeuwin, we are not just a crew; but a team of passionate individuals that support the Foundations mission to “challenge and inspire education and development of our youth and the wider community”.
At home in Fremantle Port, the ship also sails to Albany, Busselton, Bunbury, Geraldton, Monkey Mia, Exmouth and Dampier (our new home port in the north).
We’re seeking an exceptional and adventurous individual to join our crew as the Chief Officer aboard the majestic STS Leeuwin II.
Position Overview:
As the Chief Officer, you will be the right hand to the Captain, responsible for overseeing the day to day operations, managing the ship’s volunteer crew and trainees and be responsible for the implementation of the Sail Training voyage program.
Responsibilities:
- Act as second in command, supporting the Captain in all aspects of vessel operation
- General ship maintenance
- Lead and motivate the crew, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment
- Management of ship whilst in port
- Assist Captain in management of Quality Assurance processes (SMS) to ensure the SMS compliance
- Maintain safety and navigation equipment.
- Medical Officer responsible for first aid and the management of the medical stores on board
- Small boat operations and leading shore expeditions.
- Square rig or traditional sailing experience is desirable
Qualifications:
- Master less than 45 metres near coastal
- GMDSS or LROCP
- AMSA medical
- Certificate of Safety Training
Short course training available for suitable candidates.
The successful candidate is required to have a current Working with Children Check and undertake a Police Clearance.
