The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Principal Technical Officer to support the Battlespace Communications System (BCS) team, helping progress the enhancement, integration, test and verification of the rugged, deployable, land-based communication system developed by Boeing. Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Execution Leads on the BCS team to identify objectives of the Mission System Integration and Test Events (MSITEs).
- Lead a team of Technical Officers to manage and deploy the equipment and facilities for the MSITEs and the System Integration Facility (SIF).
- Ensure facilities and resources are planned and ready for the MSITEs and SIF.
- Understand Operational Security practices for Australian Defence Force.
- Contribute to systems development with unique operational and technical insights.
- Review the work of technical and engineering staff for correct application of the relevant practice specific to communications infrastructure design, installation, verification and logistics activities.
- Lead testing of Integrated Battlefield Telecommunication Network (I-BTN) system with End User in mind.
- Drive a strong continuous improvement mindset.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Previous experience with I-BTN system is essential.
- Understanding of the Australian Defence Force, including but not limited to the Defence Organisational Structure, Defence Project Management and Defence Equipment Management.
- Thorough understanding of Defence Communication Equipment Management (CCI and COMSEC).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
Desirable:
- Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
- Familiarity with systems engineering review and configuration management processes using a PLM tool will be highly regarded.
- Must be willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations will be Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with MSITEs conducted at Defence facilities in the SEQ region.
- Experience managing the safety of personnel, particularly in field-test environments. Experience authoring and working to Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) or similar will be highly regarded.
