The Role and our Branch

The Infrastructure Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and organised Project OfficerTransportable Buildings to join their Capital Works and Maintenance Branch.

The Infrastructure Division has responsibility for the planning and provision of facilities (land, buildings and equipment), which includes land planning, student enrolment forecasting and facilities planning, strategic asset management, capital works programs, maintenance and minor works programs and provision of facilities related services.

The successful applicant will provide administrative and policy support to Capital Works and Maintenance while also developing and maintaining databases. You will provide interpretation of policy requirements regarding access to transportable accommodation and manage the transportable accommodation program and provide information on existing facilities.

In the role of Project Officer - Transportable Buildings you will be responsible for supporting the Principal Project Officer in providing a client-focussed service to the Minister’s Office, schools, the community and the public. You will also assist the Principal Project Officer in the assessment of facilities related needs and the compilation of equitable programs for provision of capital works through development and maintenance of databases, interpretation of policy requirements and local knowledge of existing facilities.

  1. Demonstrated sound interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective client relationships and provide quality client service to achieve required program/project outcomes.
  2. Demonstrated sound written communication and presentation skills, including experience in preparing correspondence to enquiries, reports and briefing notes.
  3. Demonstrated sound understanding of local government planning policies.
  4. Demonstrated sound understanding and experience in negotiating and managing a large scale asset program.
  5. Demonstrated sound conceptual and analytical skills.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete a declaration prior to employment and annually thereafter disclosing any previous disciplinary findings, criminal charges or convictions, and ongoing conflicts of interest
  • provide a statement from previous employer/s with regard to any disciplinary findings
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
