About the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre
The Illawarra Women’s Health Centre is a community-based feminist health care centre for women only. Established in 1986 we provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality women’s medical and health care services. We also offer a range of health and wellbeing workshops, programs and community-based group activities and support groups. Our services evolve in response to the needs of women and girls in the region, are shaped by evidence of effective practice as well as local, state, and national policy contexts. Our services are provided at little or no cost to all women in the Illawarra.
Position Summary
As the Receptionist, you will play a pivotal role as the first point of contact for the Centre. This busy position is responsible for welcoming women into the Centre, organising appointments, providing support and information to clients over the phone and in person, administration of client record systems and maintenance of databases and registers of information. Due to the nature of our service, high levels of maturity and discretion are mandatory.
The position is part-time, 4 days per week, Tuesday to Friday.
The successful candidate will have
Essential
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to provide respectful and welcoming service to women of diverse backgrounds and life experience
- At least 2 years' experience in a similar role
- Effective listening skills and the ability to provide information to women in difficult situations
- Excellent office and IT skills and proficiency
- Well-developed organisational ability
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Feminist understanding/analysis of women's issues/women's health issues
Desirable
- Fluency in a community language other than English
- Experience in a health/medical setting, with knowledge of Medical Director, Pracsoft and HIC claims processes
Additional Information
You must have a National Criminal Record Check*, a Working with Children Police Check, and be fully vaccinated (and maintain full vaccination status) for COVID-19.

The successful applicant will be offered a permanent contract starting immediately. A remuneration package commensurate with professional experience will be offered, based on the SCHADS Award. The Illawarra Women's Health Centre is a union supporting workplace.
