About This Opportunity

The Children's Health and Environment Program conducts a range of studies of childhood exposure to environmental hazards and resulting health effects. The Research Assistant provides technical research support and subject matter expertise in support of a number of epidemiological projects being conducted within the program, at all stages of the research life-cycle. The Research Assistant will work closely with an environmental epidemiologist and will assist in all activities, such as liaising with participants, data collection and basic analysis, writing manuscripts and general administration tasks. This research will be conducted at the Queensland Children's Hospital and the Child Health Research Centre.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Data management, including collection, storage, and cleaning of study data
  • Conduct the data analysis and quality checks, including writing results of analysis, in collaboration with Project Coordinator
  • Drafts project-related research documentation and other materials
  • Assist with preparing reports on project outcomes
  • Assist with communication through social media channels
  • In discussion with the supervisor, manages the timelines of research projects
  • Other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor
  • Assists with drafting research documentation, including ethics and funding applications
  • Undertakes literature searches and reviews

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 1 year.

At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $75,878.89 - $84,342.92 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,778.30 - $98,681.22 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases - at least once a year.

About You

  • A qualification (Bachelor's degree or higher) in public health, statistics, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in using R statistical program, or a related program
  • An ability to maintain accurate records and be confident navigating computer systems.
  • Ability to adjust easily to changing needs and priorities in order to facilitate project completion.
  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Blue Card for working with children.

Desirable

  • Experience in data management and analysis
  • Experience using geographic information systems
  • Previous experience with manuscript preparation and/or grant writing

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
