Risk and Compliance Officer

We are currently on the lookout for a meticulous and dynamic professional to join the Canterbury community as a Risk and Compliance Officer on a Permanent Full-time basis; starting immediately. As the Risk and Compliance Officer you will play a pivotal role in embedding and maintaining a culture of Risk and Compliance awareness across the College.
For the right candidate, a part-time position and/or flex-work provisions could be available.
Your Role:
Working closely with the Principal and Executive Team, this role will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the School's Risk and Compliance systems, practices and procedures to ensure it complies with current legal and regulatory obligations. Specific areas may include; governance, regulatory compliance, operational risk, risk management, staff training, insurance and Workplace Health and Safety. No two days will be the same.
Responsibilities may Include:
- Risk Management
- Maintaining the College's Risk Register including: - annual reviews, risk identification, assessment of the integrity of risk controls, implementation and monitoring of Risk Action Plans
- Performing Risk assessments to understand risk level, significance and scope;
- Responding to incident reports in a prompt manner with follow up action where required;
- Highlighting or escalating areas of concern;
- Implementing and administering the College’s risk management system;
- Providing regular reports to the College Board, Finance and Risk Sub Committee and the Principal.
- Compliance
- Monitoring compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies;
- Investigating irregularities and non-compliance issues;
- Contributing to robust and effective compliance controls within the organisation;
- Assisting and supporting HR with return to work requirements relating to compliance and workplace health and safety;
- Ensuring compliance with data collection, storage and privacy of incident and accident reporting systems;
- Reporting to senior stakeholders on current WHS, Risk and Compliance status across the organisation;
- Training
- Providing training or coordinating with external contractors to provide training, where necessary to ensure compliance in various work areas;
- Ensuring all staff are enrolled in their training modules and these are kept up to date and done revisited annually;
- Delivering training and presentations on Risk and Compliance management, as required.
- Associated duties
- Participating in relevant committees
- Performing various general administrative duties (such as file creation and maintenance of ongoing administrative projects).
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience and background in Risk and Compliance.
- Sound knowledge of the aspects of the legal and regulatory framework relevant to independent schools in Queensland.
- Attention to detail and investigation showcasing an ability to identify the detail behind the issues and resolve complex problems to completion.
- Ability to cope within a high-pressure environment – staying calm and positive.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage a range of work tasks and outcomes and liaise effectively with stakeholders.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Essential Qualifications:
- Have a current Positive Notice working with children Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
- Formal tertiary qualifications within a Risk and Compliance or Law related discipline (desirable).
- Relevant industry knowledge and experience in Workplace Health and Safety, Compliance/Risk Management or a related discipline.
