The Role
This position will assist with the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of youth program for Ezidi young people aged 12-24 years old living in Armidale. In partnership with young people the program will establish the Youth Action Collective to increase leadership skills amongst Ezidi young people. The program will promote and increase the participation and well-being of Ezidi young people through art and sport workshops, school holiday activities, and camps with focus on health and well-being, art and culture, social connectedness and sport and recreation.

Work Type: Full-time; 38 hours per week. Contract up to 25 June 2025 (Continuation subject to ongoing funding)
Location: Armidale
Vaccination Requirement: Category A.
Salary: Health Education Officer, or other relevant classification based on qualifications, experience and requirements of the role. A generous salary packaging scheme is also offered.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Essential:
1. Qualifications in youth work, community development, sport and recreation or equivalent extensive experience in this area.
2. Demonstrated understanding of child protection, including issues and legislation, risk management, responding to incidents and disclosures.
3. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with service providers, agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to plan and deliver effective programs that respond to youth identified needs with in a multi-cultural context.
4. Understanding of the effects of torture and trauma on young people, their families, and communities and its impact on resettlement in the context of Rural and Regional settlement in Australia.
5. Experience in conducting youth related social, art and recreational group programs.
6. Demonstrated project management skills, including sound knowledge and experience in planning, implementation, and evaluation.
STARTTS VACANCY
7. Excellent oral, written & interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team within a multicultural environment.
8. Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
Desirable Requirements:
1. Bi-lingual in a community language relevant to refugee communities living in NSW.
2. Experience working with refugee children and young people.
3. Current First Aid Certificate.
*This position is considered child-related employment and will require a Working with Children Background Check and a National Police Check.
VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
**This role is a Category A role. It is mandatory for Category A workers to meet and maintain the vaccination. criteria (as per the current NSW Health and STARTTS policies) including annual Influenza vaccinations. Two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status. If successful you must provide evidence of vaccination.
Additionally, vaccination and/or assessment is required for Category A workers for the following transmissible diseases – measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and tuberculosis. If successful you must also provide evidence of vaccination and/or assessment.
Should you not be able to comply with vaccination requirements before your commencement date, the offer of employment may be withdrawn.
If you have a medical reason for why you cannot be vaccinated, a medical contraindication evidence will be required.
