Walker Newman and Associates Pty Ltd (www.wna.com.au) provide communications engineering and maintenance services to a number of clients in the Oil & Gas and mining sectors. We request expressions of interest from high calibre Senior Communications technicians who might wish to join our team.
Whilst it is an advantage to have Oil & Gas experience, it is not a strict requirement.
To be considered you must be willing to live in Karratha. (Housing will be provided as part of the package.)
The role is offered on a minimum of 12 month contract arrangement with the genuine intent to extend indefinitely.
Work:
Corrective and preventative maintenance of a broad range of telecommunications systems utilised across onshore and offshore Oil & Gas assets, and the associated marine support environment.
Prepare/hold permits (ISSOW).
You need to have the ability to arrange/manage your own work scopes.
You must be willing to work offshore for periods up to two weeks.
Technical experience:
Experience is required in at least four of the following of the following.
- IT infrastructure (operating systems, virtualised environments)
- IP networking (LAN, WAN, wireless)
- LoRaWAN/IoT
- Radio systems (analog, DMR, TETRA) (VHF, UHF)
- Microwave radio
- LTE
- Marine systems (radar, AIS/AtoN, VTS, GMDSS)
- Stabilised antenna systems
- VSAT
- Cabling (copper, fibre, coax)
- PAGA
- CCTV
- Access Control, personnel location, mustering
- Entertainment, AV, collaboration systems
- Telecommunications power systems
- SCADA/telemetry/PLCs
- Network management systems (Solarwinds)
- FOSSL
- Berthing Aid Systems

- Oil and gas experience is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
- Mining experience is desirable (but again not mandatory)
- SAP experience is beneficial
Qualifications - Senior Technician Positions
- Communications/electronics trade qualification, or;
- Certificate 4 (minimum) in communications, or;
- Diploma in Electronics or communications.
- A Restricted Electrical License (WA) and/or EEHA qualifications is highly desirable but not mandatory.
Employment will be subject to a medical (suitable for offshore work), police clearance and maritime security identity card clearance. [WNA will pay for these if necessary.]
