Beacon Legal is a recruitment and career consultancy for the legal industry. We combine legal qualifications and experience with recruitment management to provide a bespoke service to candidates and clients. Our main offices are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and London and we provide services in key international markets: Australia; Asia; UK; USA, UAE and the Cayman Islands.
We currently have 13 staff and are looking to grow to 20 within two years. We will do this whilst enhancing our reputation as a reliable, credible and specialist legal recruitment business, which mirrors the professionalism of our clients.
Due to growth, we’re looking to hire a law student or graduate to join the team as a Candidate Manager/Junior Consultant (we’re flexible as to the exact working arrangement). The role will support our high-performing private practice team.

What will you be doing?
The role will see you being responsible for all aspects of candidate generation (i.e. sourcing lawyers), candidate care and management, research tasks and related administrative duties.
Your day-to-day involvement will see you:
- Utilising relevant recruitment tools (including our database, LinkedIn Recruiter etc) to identify, contact and screen candidates on a daily basis for specific client mandates, both for law firms and companies;
- Working closely with the relevant Consultants, Senior Consultants, Associate Directors and Directors to take comprehensive job briefings from clients;
- Attending client meetings (with a Beacon Legal consultant) with both HR leaders and senior lawyers (including Partners and General Counsels);
- Selecting and matching candidates for appropriate positions, arranging interviews and fully briefing candidates on the company and role;
- Headhunting lawyers on the phone through warm and cold calling;
- Conducting reference checks as required;
- Developing relationships with relevant candidates and keeping in regular contact to build positive, productive and long-term corporate relationships; and
- Achieving targets and meeting individual and team KPI's in a fast moving and competitive environment.
What are we looking for?
This role is the perfect opportunity for a dynamic self-starter - a law student or graduate looking to gain exposure to the legal industry. You’ll learn about the legal market in detail and the role will give you an in-depth understanding of the industry – which firms are sought after (and why), the difference between working in private practice and in-house, key drivers of job satisfaction for lawyers, and many other lessons that you simply couldn’t learn anywhere else.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be:
- Studying or recently completed a law degree;
- Enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn;
- Comfortable with cold-calling lawyers you’ve never spoken with before (trust us, they’re not that scary!);
- Efficient and organised, and capable of managing your time effectively;
- A good listener, resilient, empathetic and have strong interpersonal skills;
- Self-motivated and hard-working;
- Interested in being part of a fast-paced team environment, with lots of social interaction (both internally and externally);
- Down-to-earth (we don’t take ourselves too seriously and love to have a laugh whilst working hard to achieve results!).
