We have operating bases in Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and the Indian Ocean Territories. South Australia is home to our 24/7 operations control centre and support functions.Our fixed wing border surveillance operations represent the World’s largest outsourced civil maritime surveillance operation, patrolling Australia’s 8.2 million square kilometre Exclusive Economic Zone.We provide fixed wing search-and-rescue response capability over land and sea on behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), covering Australia’s SAR region which is approximately 10% of the earth’s surface.Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced pilot and aviation expert to join our Airborne Solutions team at Leidos, who is passionate about supporting the management of operational compliance and safety and the technical aspects of our flying operations.
Working in a highly dynamic environment, this role will require you to interact with our crew, aircraft manufacturers, regulators and technical service providers and provide technical advice to all parts of the business regarding development activities. You will also be responsible for managing our team of technical pilots and compliance specialists.
Reporting directly to the Head of Flight Operations, you will also:Manage technical matters, regulatory compliance, procedures and standardsReview, develop and maintain operational procedures across the companyWork across teams within the broader business to establish operational efficiency upgradesEngage in initiatives to improve pilot attraction, training and retentionProvide 24 hour operational advice when acting as duty pilotAs our Senior Manager of Flight Ops Technical, you will own and implement a number of operational improvements across the business.QualificationsWhat we need (Essential):Australian ATPLProven aviation management and leadership capabilityComprehensive understanding of Australian civil aviation legislationDemonstrated experience in developing operating procedures and applying in-depth knowledge of specific aircraft types2000 hours multi-crew experience1000 hours multi-crew commandAustralian CitizenAbility to hold an AGSVA clearance and ESCDesirable:Prior experience as operator key personnelExperience in aviation project management (e.g. type entry into service)Flight Examiner Rating or Pilot Instructor RatingDash 8 or Bombardier business jet type ratingAdditional InformationOpen to candidates based in Melbourne, Darwin, Broome, Cairns and PerthOther capital city locations will be considered for suitably experienced applicantsThis is a Full-time, permanent role.Applicants may also need to meet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements.
