Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation (SA) is a free community legal service assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims/survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault. They assist families and communities across the Spencer Gulf and West Coast regions of SA through offices located in Port Lincoln, Port Augusta and Ceduna.
An outstanding opportunity has presented to appoint the important role of Senior Solicitor. Working with a dedicated legal team and reporting to the Principal Legal Officer, key responsibilities include:
- Identify and determine legal issues consistent with the FVLSAC legal practice framework and funding guidelines
- Undertake legal work including taking client instructions, drafting court documents and correspondence and provide legal advice
- Attending court hearings
- Build trusted relationships with clients
- Refer clients with non-legal needs to Client Support Officers
- Provide advice and support to colleagues as required
- Comply with all relevant internal and external Legal Practice Standards
- Assist in the development and delivery of relevant legal education and materials
It is expected that you will have a minimum of 5 years PAE experience in either Family Law, Child Protection or Domestic Violence matters. Whilst the nature of the work can be intensive and challenging at times, the much-needed support you will be providing will be rewarding and highly valued. You will require outstanding communication skills and a demonstrated empathy for others in dealing with sensitive issues. Ideally, you will be based in Port Lincoln, however, we would also be willing to consider candidates that prefer to base themselves in Port Augusta or Ceduna. You will require an unrestricted driver's licence and be willing to travel across the region. This may involve occasional extended hours. Employment will be conditional upon a National Police Clearance and a DHS clearance for Working with Children.
