UMS headquarters are based in a unique advanced manufacturing innovation hub on the Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus, Waurn Ponds, Victoria.
UMS designs and manufactures reconfigurable, high fidelity motion simulators for military driver training. Our core product, the Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS), is a highly dynamic motion platform consisting of a six degree of freedom robotic arm, interchangeable replica vehicle cabins, haptically enabled control devices and immersive simulation environments featuring detailed vehicle dynamics and terrain modelling.
UMS design and supply to Defence Australia Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS), a high-fidelity simulated driver training system for existing and future armoured vehicles.
UMS is currently contracted to the Commonwealth of Australia to supply and support 6 RDS systems to be installed in a state-of-the-art simulation facility, at the Australian Army training facility and base in Puckapunyal, Victoria, with future growth in Australia and internationally.
About the role
Reporting to the Principal Systems Engineer, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for:
- Leading the development and integration of systems into the RDS and related products within the project and/or Statement of Work (SOW) scope.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to others within the Systems Engineering team.
- Developing engineering solutions using the Engineering Development and Release Lifecycle, in accordance with UMS policies and customer requirements.
- Ensuring RDS systems are safe to produce, install, operate and maintain through the implementation of Systems Safety Engineering processes.
- Developing, reviewing and conducting Verification and Validation programs to demonstrate compliance to requirements and enable formal acceptance by the customer.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Senior Systems Engineer.
- Experience in requirements management, verification and validation activities, systems safety activities and systems integration.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and the ability to work with minimal guidance and direction.
- Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience within Defence or Defence industry, vehicle simulation and / or developing complex platform/systems would be advantageous.
