Basic Job Functions:
The Solar Asset Manager role encompasses a wide range of capabilities that ultimately ensures the accountability of compliance in operating a utility power plant. This includes but is not limited to the structuring of operational activities including effectively communicating with and reporting to external stakeholders, such as owners, their appointed representatives, and regulatory stakeholders as well as working with site staff to manage contractual requirements.
Working actively with management and field teams, the intent of this role is to ensure management tasks to a high level of efficiency and compliance of the plant, and to maintain a strong knowledge of all aspects of the site. This also includes reacting to new and developing events onsite, and contributing to the content of the operational reports, as defined by the agreement.
These responsibilities include but are not limited to operational excellence within plant operations; coordinating with monitoring and control centre functions and the management of work order and operational reports as defined by each site's individual agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
PV installation - Operation and Maintenance responsibility
- Review the operation of plant equipment and systems continuously, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, including identification of opportunities for improvement
- Maximize the overall efficiency & value through interactions with maintenance teams across the fleet
- Be highly conscious of any impacts of outages that can occur in the context of effective availability and performance requirements
- Always challenge the maintenance team to maximize the plant effective availability; maximize value when accomplishing required maintenance
- Maintain a strong understanding of operating contract, operating protocols, transmission and scheduling entity operating handbooks, operating agreements, and any standards or regulations applicable to the generator operator / generator owner
Receipt of failure alarms
- Work with Control Centre/Planner Scheduler to review, evaluate and organize for failure correction to be carried out by the Field Technician.
- Oversee that documentation and work records are accurately recorded and reported.
Creation of Scheduled documentation
- Ensuring the creation of reports of all PV installations assigned to them are distributed in a timely manner.
- Accurate reporting of the annual maintenance plan (based on checklists, annual maintenance, tickets etc.).
- Understand and deliver comprehensive information to the customer and to prepare or coordinate documentation of activities learned or performed.
Creation of event-based documentation
- Responsibilities include the finalisation of event-based reports based on information captured from internal resources such as the Control Centre, Operations Manager and field teams.
- This includes, but is not limited to, reports on additional orders such as vegetation management, retrofitting etc.
Interface to customers
- First point of contact for customer inquiries with technical-operative content
- Distribution of reports to the customers
- Contact for customer inquiries regarding the distributed reports
- Participation in periodical telephone conferences with customers
- Strong analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematical techniques in practical situations
Additional Orders
- Independently determine necessary and appropriate additional work and retrofitting for assigned projects
- Calculation of customer offers for additional work as a result of ongoing O&M activities
- Management of delivery of larger additional orders to customers
Interface function
- Regular reporting to Senior Management on the latest project status (larger projects, work schedules etc.)
- Regular contact with other work teams throughout the business, including but not limited to Control Centre
Training:
- Maintains knowledge of required expertise by identifying opportunities for and attending continued professional development
Candidates Experience:
Prospective candidates should be able to provide evidence of:
- Demonstrated understanding of PV and renewable energy power plants, EH&S compliance, management, operations, and maintenance
- A desire to deliver best practice operations & maintenance methodology
- Demonstrated experience communicating with network service providers & AEMO
- Understanding of contracts and demonstrated comprehension of agreement requirements
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of commitment to the customer's success
- Proven experience in efficiently executing tasks, as defined by a maintenance plan
- Demonstrate strong organization skills with excellent problem solving and effective communication skills
- Reliable, organized and team focused
- Abilities to deep dive into technical issues including root cause investigations
- Experience managing third party contractors
- Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written in English
- Ability to share technical expertise with team members and the customer
- Ability and willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills and contribute to continuous improvement of procedures and best practices
- Demonstrate care with all works and tasks
- Have a strong desire to exceeding expectations, combined with a can-do approach
- Willing to travel to project sites, if and when required
Required Qualifications:
- Relevant Safety Certifications (white card)
- Relevant Technical or Engineering degree
- A valid Drivers Licence
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate has a demonstrated comprehension of Solar Plants, and the roles of the O&M function. This is evidenced by:
- Exceptional commercial & technical acumen with an understanding of how to clearly communicate project status
- A thorough knowledge of the power generation business and the associated opportunities and challenges as evidenced by a rich and successful track record in the industry, knowledge of regulatory and permitting issues, and relationships with utilities and other customers
- Proven ability to work cross functionally (e.g., Project Development, Business Development) and to use best-in-class processes and supporting systems (e.g., remote monitoring capabilities) that have been developed and are required to ensure uniformity in the conduct of business
- Strong Leadership Skills - In the context of a high-growth company and results oriented culture
- Detail oriented and not afraid to get his/her hands dirty through a high degree of focus on the resolution of day-to-day issues
- Embodies a "can-do" attitude and meets goals despite roadblocks
Physical Requirements:
- Will be required to conduct a pre-work medical prior to employment, which will verify at a minimum:
- Sit and stand periodically during the day
- Required to lift up to 20 kgs
- Walk and climb stairs
- Reach over shoulder heights and below waist
- Required to use hands to lift, handle, carry or feel
- May be required to kneel, bend, talk and hear
- Specific vision abilities are required
