Our Branch
City Legal provides a range of cost-effective legal services which add value to Council's core business. The City Legal team sit within the City Administration and Governance division of Council and is well known for its progressive, collegial, and service-focused delivery of specialist advice work and documentation that makes a positive difference to the city of Brisbane and its people.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel Litigation Risk and Enforcement, you will be involved in civil litigation and disputes, prosecutions AND ENFORCEMENT activities, and advisory work covering a diverse range of projects and legal areas. The key to your success in this role will be your eagerness to learn and ability to manage workflow in a busy and challenging environment with competing interests.
As a solicitor you will have:
- an ability to actively contribute and, give and receive feedback to maintain a culture of performance excellence
- knowledge and understanding, or a demonstrated ability to develop knowledge and understanding, of the laws relating to, and enforced by, local government
- an ability to provide advice pertaining to the business and functions of local government, with a particular focus on litigation, RISK AND ENFORCEMENT
- have knowledge of contemporary professional literature and case law, with specific reference to the local government environment
- have well-developed communication and negotiation skills including the ability to manage conflicting deadlines.
The successful candidate must be admitted to practise as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and hold or be eligible to hold a current Practising Certificate from the Queensland Law Society.
