Job description

Position Title:Special Project Officer – Nurse-to-Patient Ratios & Recruitment 

Duration: 12 months

Location: ANF Office (260 Pier St Perth) 

Reports To: ANF Secretary

Summary:

The Nurse Special Project Officer will play a vital role in the implementation and rollout of nurse-to-patient ratios across the Western Australian Public Health system. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support, guidance, and expertise to ensure successful integration of ratios in various healthcare settings. 

The Special Project Officer will assist the ANF Secretary in developing strategies to attract, recruit, retain, and accommodate midwives and nurses in all parts of the WA Health System – public and private.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ratios Steering Committee Involvement:
    • Participate in the WA Government Ratios Steering Committee meetings.
    • Contribute insights, recommendations, and expertise to inform decision-making related to nurse-to-patient ratios.
    • Attend recruitment meetings with ANF members to evaluate the implementation of ratios and report back to the steering committee.
  2. Rollout of Ratios:
    • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure the effective implementation of nurse-to-patient ratios across various wards, areas, or clinics.
    • Provide guidance and support to nurses and midwives regarding the integration of ratios into their daily practices.
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of ratio implementation, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
  3. Recruitment and Retention Strategies:
    • Investigate current challenges in attracting, recruiting, and retaining nurses and midwives in all areas of WA       public, private and aged care.
    • Develop and implement initiatives to address recruitment and retention challenges, including targeted marketing campaigns, incentives, and support programs.
  4. Attends meetings as directed by the ANF Secretary.
  5. Any other job as directed by the ANF Secretary.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
  • Experience in project management or nurse education.
  • Strong understanding of nurse-to-patient ratios and their implications for healthcare delivery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices related to nursing and midwifery workforce issues.
  • Experience in advocacy, lobbying, or stakeholder engagement is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license.
  • The position will involve regular overnight stays outside the metropolitan area.
