Keelonith Primary School, is a Supported Inclusion School that opened in Jan 2021. KPS has the motto 'Learning Without Limits', we learn within universally designed school facilities located in a growing residential area in the suburb of Greenvale.
The school is located on the corner of Blossom Drive and Greenvale Gardens Boulevard, Greenvale. Our current enrolment sits at approx 350 students. Relevant tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology, and experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques including assessment and intervention for students with speech, language, communication and literacy needs in a school environment.
Understanding of, and experience working with students aged 5-12 with a variety of presentations or communication needs, including the ability to provide specialist advice on appropriate goals and teaching strategies for students. (specific examples e.g. ID/ASD)?
A knowledge of the use and application of a wide range of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and visual supports and a commitment to supporting their use throughout the school.
High level organisational, written and verbal communication skills, including completion of supporting documentation for Disability Inclusion (DI) Profiles and PSD applications.
Ability to work positively and effectively with staff, students, parents/carers and external providers.
Demonstrated commitment to using and promoting inclusive practice in a primary school setting.
Speech pathologist duties include:
- Complete in-depth or screening assessments and observations for speech, language, communication, and literacy
- Complete reports and supporting documentation for DI Profiles
- Work closely with existing Wellbeing Team to provide holistic support to students
- Assess, prescribe, design, train and implement Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems and strategies (low and high tech) with students, such that communication skills can be facilitated in every class across the day.
- Liaise with colleagues and parents/carers about evidence-based accommodations and strategies to support individual students with communication difficulties.
- Sourcing and developing targeted and effective learning resources for students in collaboration with teachers.
- Liaison with, and referral to, external agencies as required
- Meeting in a professional learning team with other teachers/ES staff.
- Support Supervision of Speech Pathology students on placement
- Attend school based and relevant professional learning and integrate this into practise
- Develop and deliver professional development to staff, parents and carers as required in the areas relevant to Speech Pathology.
- Attend relevant meetings
- Assisting and advising teachers about communication supports and reasonable adjustments and attending Student Support Group (SSG) meetings
- Collecting student data and keeping up-to-date case notes
- Document and maintain accurate records and report student progress.
