Context
UWA College is The University of Western Australia’s new pathway college. Designed to prepare international students for success at UWA, students will benefit from a tailored learning experience across a range of Foundation and Diploma programs – providing the ideal preparation and a packaged pathway for students to continue their studies at UWA. UWA College is operated and run under contract to the University by INTO University Partnerships. UWA College Programs:
- Foundation Program: The UWA College Foundation Program has been designed to prepare international students for successful transition to undergraduate study at The University of Western Australia. The program includes a suite of subjects comparable in standard to an Australian Year 12 curriculum and develops the academic skills and knowledge necessary for study at the tertiary level.
- Diploma in Commerce: Provides international students with the academic knowledge, study skills and English language competence they need to progress to the second year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree at UWA.
- Diploma in Science: Provides international students with the academic knowledge, study skills and English language competence they need to progress to the second year of a Science-related degree at UWA.
- Diploma in Computer Science: Provides international students with the academic knowledge, study skills and English language competence they need to progress to the second year of a Bachelor of Computer Science degree at UWA.
- Diploma in Engineering: Provides international students with the academic knowledge, study skills and English language competence they need to progress to the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering degree at UWA.
UWA College currently has a vacancy for a Teacher (English for Academic Purposes) commencing in late May in preparation for Trimester 2 2024 starting June 10th 2024.
UWA College is also seeking to establishing a pool of Teachers for appointments to fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the next 12 months.
Job Dimensions
You should be able to develop and teach academic and communication skills units to international students at pre-university Foundation level or Diploma level. These units are skills based and include elements of English for Academic Purposes and university transition. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of units on either Foundation or Diploma and will work closely with the relevant manager to ensure that standards in assessment are maintained. You will also require the ability to teach a variety of students from a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds and different language levels. We also welcome applicants who have an additional background in relevant discipline-based subjects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver Academic and Communications Skills units offered at UWA College.
- Design purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and meet the individual needs of students.
- Prepare, select and use teaching/learning materials for international students (including the use of textbooks, in-house materials and self-created materials).
- Provide oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders (e.g., Program Managers and student support services).
- Attend regular staff and student representative meetings.
- Organise the design, setting and marking of both formative and summative assessments, complying to quality assurance processes as necessary and keeping reliable records of scores achieved.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress, and to produce periodic reports at the request of the relevant Program Manager.
- Contribute to effective pastoral care in order to ensure all students’ welfare.
- Maintain comprehensive academic and pastoral records for reporting and management purposes.
- To contribute to the development of units through work with the relevant Program Manager.
About you
- Minimum of a 3-Year Bachelor degree in a relevant subject
- A recognised English Language teaching qualification
- A minimum of three years teaching experience in ESL/EFL/EAP
- Proven track record of contributing to the development of a successful syllabus at the appropriate level
- Proven track record at developing assessment at the appropriate level
- To demonstrate understanding of standards in academic assessment and of basic quality assurance procedures
- To demonstrable cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
- A record of achievement in teaching
- Proven competence in the use of technology
- Proven planning and organisational skills
- The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, work under pressure and, when necessary, with minimal resources
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- An understanding of Australian higher education and the needs and requirements of international students
- A record of attention to detail, thoroughness, and fairness
- Student focused and sympathetic to the needs of international students
- Flexible with the ability to solve problems and willingness put in the time necessary to do the job
All UWA College staff need to be committed and responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of adolescents and young adults. The offer will be subject to a Western Australian Working with Children Check, National Police check and two references.
The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate their right to work within Australia.

The position is based in Perth, at The University of Western Australia Crawley campus.
