Job description

What we are looking for a highly experienced in the child and youth mental health clinical support and leadership. Strong values about the central role of the lived experience workforce, wellbeing support, and co-design in mental health service development and delivery. Strong values about inclusion and diversity. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Person centred focus, emphasis on providing choice and flexibility.  

  • This role is a 12 month maternity leave position Jan 2024 to Jan 2025 (0.8 EFT)

About the Child and Youth HOPE Team  
The Early in Life Mental Health Services (ELMHS) provides assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, young people and their families. We work with the 0-18 age in the Southern Region. We provide a comprehensive assessment service and a range of treatment options including inpatient treatment in times of crisis, community (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy, and specialist services.  

The Child & Youth Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (CY-HOPE) Team is a core component of Victoria’s suicide prevention framework, which aims to halve Victoria’s suicide rate by 2025. This new service gives children and young people who are intentionally self-harming, experiencing suicidal ideation, or have attempted suicide a rapid and intensive form of support that is designed to prevent rate of recurrence and ultimately reduce rates of suicide among children and young people. Importantly, this includes engagement and support of their parents/carers, families and extended support networks in assertive outreach provided. All stakeholders (children, young people, their parents/carers, families and service providers) will work together in this Child and Youth HOPE service at the Early in Life Mental Health Service (ELMHS) at Monash Health. 

This service has been co-designed with and for young people and carers, First Nations people, people from Culturally Diverse Communities, LGBTIQ+ people, people in Out of Home Care, and Neurodiverse people. The co-designed service goals are: Approachable & Accessible, Positive & Empowering, Empathetic & Personalised, Responsible & Accountable, Creative & Resourceful, and Connected & Cohesive. About The Role  
The role of the Team Manager is to work with the ELMHS HOPE Team, including wellbeing support workers, consumer and family/carer support workers, clinical staff, and stakeholders, to lead the implementation, delivery, and evaluation a new assertive outreach and follow-up service for children and young people who are intentionally self-harming; experiencing suicidal ideation; or have attempted suicide. The incumbent, in close liaison with the HOPE leadership team, will contribute to the running of the service, manage evolving risks, contribute to the ongoing evaluation and co-design process. Importantly, the voices of children and young people, as well as their families and carers, will be central to the provision of the new service.

Successful applicant will be highly experienced in the Child and Youth Mental Health and leadership. Have strong values about the central role of the lived experience workforce, wellbeing support, and co-design in mental health service development and delivery. Highly experienced in the child and youth mental health clinical support. Strong values about inclusion and diversity. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Person centred focus, emphasising choice and flexibility. Expected to be enthusiastic, compassionate & able to work collaboratively, able to prioritise and meet deadlines. Be autonomous in work organization and time management. Be adept in problem solving and is a solution focused person.
