We are seeking a Technical Officer (TO3) (Government Contract role) who is keen to collaborate with project leaders and other team members on a range of research projects.
As our Technical Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Assist with field research activities, including maintaining trials at our client's research station, manual removal of background weeds, establishing field sites, applying herbicides, collecting plant and seed samples, collecting soil samples, and assessing herbicide efficacy.
- Contribute to controlled environment experiments in glasshouses, growth rooms, and shade houses.
- Make accurate observations and record data from field and controlled environment trials, as well as entering data into spreadsheets for analysis.
- Assist in organising and conducting weed surveys across key cropping regions of Queensland, which involves liaising with land managers and other team members.
- Hold a current ‘C’ class driver's license.
- Hold a Diploma in Applied Science, Rural Science, or Rural Techniques from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field.
- Hold or be willing to obtain a current Commercial Operators License for safe herbicide application.
- Ability to manually assess weed populations through counts before and after herbicide treatment, which may require prolonged periods of bending or operating close to the ground.
- Ability to successfully establish and maintain weed and crop populations in various environments, including field, glasshouse, and controlled settings.
- Ideally, possess knowledge and experience in herbicide application, evaluation of weed populations and maintenance of field sites and controlled environment experiments.
