The Opportunity
We have an exciting opening available to join our Kulunga Aboriginal Unit at the Telethon Kids Institute!
The key focus of the Kulunga team is to guide and support Research teams to connect with Aboriginal children and families and to build the capacity and development of Institute researchers and staff working on Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing projects.
As the Capacity Building Coordinator, you will play an integral role in supporting the implementation of our Aboriginal Employment and Capacity Development Strategy which aims to facilitate further Capacity Building opportunities of our Aboriginal staff and students to enhance the sustainability and skills of our workforce.
Reporting to our Operations Manager and closely working with other members of the Kulunga team, you will support the design of Capacity Building plans, projects and programs to facilitate awareness, understanding and positive relationships across the Telethon Kids Institute and local communities. Building and maintaining strong relationships with the Institute’s Aboriginal staff network and key stakeholder groups, including universities, will be a key focus of this position.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Assisting with site specific Cultural Awareness Training and other relevant cultural training including immersion programs, Aboriginal Research Methodologies and good clinical practice.Participating in collaborative projects across the Institute to strengthen and diversify knowledge and skills of staff and to further enhance community outcomes.Building sound networks and relationships to facilitate effective communication, information sharing and increased understanding of culturally appropriate practice between the Institute, Aboriginal staff and communities.Acting as a point of contact between staff and families of various cultural backgrounds to ensure a culturally competent and safe interaction.Based in our office in Broome, this position will be offered on a part-time basis (2.5 days per week) for 12 months in the first instance.
