Overview of the Role:
The primary purpose of the Accounting Assistant/Accountant is to provide support with day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance team in Australia, ensuring efficient and effective processing and accurate reporting whilst maintaining internal controls and external compliance.
This position also assists with the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports of financial information for the investment portfolios in Australia, and ensure all transactions are properly recorded and authorised.
This includes assisting with the management reporting of the custom farming and permanent farming operations and regulatory compliance both domestic and international taxation compliance, in particular withholding tax, GST/BAS and income tax returns.
Key responsibilities:
Accounts payable and receivable
- Accurately record all invoices in relation to operating and capital expenses for both leased and custom farm properties in line with accounting standards and procedures.
- Assist with the weekly collation and management of invoices for permanent farms, liaising with farm management groups.
- Timely payment of expense invoices in accordance with authorisation and banking procedures.
- Correct filing of support and audit information in line with procedures.
- Assist with preparation of invoices to tenants for leases and property outgoings for reimbursement.
- Assist with the reconciliation of income, monitoring and reporting and management of overdue accounts receivable.
Lease Management
- Assist with maintenance of lease property schedules
- Maintain register within database of tenant reimbursements and invoicing of reimbursements to tenants.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with the review of the balance sheet and control account reconciliations and ensure the balances reported in the financial statements are complete and accurate.
- Assist with the reporting and reconciliation of custom farm and share farm properties (this includes grain reconciliations, inventory management, transport and grain sale contracts). Assist with the accrual of income and expenses as required.
- Assist with lease property accounting and reporting, including reconciliation of rent income, reimbursements and bonus share rents.
Management Accounting
- Assist with the preparation of periodical management reports (Budget to Actual)
- Ensure general ledger is up to do date with all approved budget information.
Insurance
- Assist with the maintenance of property insurance schedules.
- Assist with lodging potential insurance claims, filing relevant documentation and ensuring proper accounting and recording of all claims related to investment entities.
- Maintain the registers of certificate of currency and workers compensation policies for all tenant, farm management groups and irrigation groups.
- Preparation of reports
- Provide support for the annual renewal insurance program.
- Co-ordinate the crop insurance program and reporting between external insurance provider, asset managers and farm management groups.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Diploma or Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
- Minimum 3 years Bookkeeping or Accounting experience
- High level computer proficiency
- Experience in cashbook and accounting software programs. Experience in the preparation of GST/BAS returns.
- A background in agriculture or agribusiness, or a general industry understanding and/or appreciation
