MMG Dugald River:
The mine; Dugald River is fully owned by MMG Limited and is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc operations and is mined underground. Dugald River is expected to produce around 180,000 – 190,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate annually. The operation employs around 500 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis. With a mine life of >20 years MMG is driving leading practices across its operations.
Health and Safety Advisor
We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Underground Health and Safety Advisor to join our SHEC team at our Dugald River operations.
Reporting to the Superintendent – Health and Safety, you will be responsible for the delivery of Safety and Health activities onsite.
This is a genuine career opportunity for a highly motivated health and safety professional, who is looking to expand their capabilities within a supportive team environment.
The role is available on a bus in, bus out basis (BIBO) from Cloncurry or a drive in, drive out basis (DIDO) from Mount Isa, or a fly in fly out basis (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane. The roster is eight days on and six days off (8/6).
An attractive additional incentive is available to employees who live or move into the Cloncurry township.
Qualifications and Competencies Required
Demonstrable experience working in an underground environment
Qualifications in a relevant Health and Safety discipline, (minimum Certificate IV in WHS)
Mining Industry Supervisor S1, S2 & S3
Manual car licence
Highly Desirable Competencies
Experience as Lead Investigator (ICAM)
Demonstrated experience in similar roles with strong stakeholder relationship skills and delivery focus
High level of understanding of Microsoft Office and SAP
Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing Health and Safety Management Systems
Knowledge and application of Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Acts and Regulations
Key responsibilities will include;
Positively influence and provide subject matter expertise to support the onsite culture around safety, health, hygiene and emergency response
Monitor and report on health and safety related licences, regulations and standards
Conduct and coordinate hygiene monitoring according to site procedures and work instructions
Implement health and safety management plans
Support the delivery of the MMG approach to delivering work safely, including work team member and supervisor accountabilities in safety
Drive and support safety, health, hygiene and emergency response improvement projects
Maintain health and safety data according to site SHEC recording and reporting Work Quality Requirement including entry into data management systems verification and reporting
Day-to-day supervisory support including professional development, task management and mentoring to site based Health and Safety team members
