About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Bibliographic Services Team Leader to join our City of Melbourne Libraries team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of providing high-quality library and information services to our vibrant community. Working closely with the Library Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering a world-class library service through innovative leadership and continuous improvement initiatives. Your responsibilities will include strategic management of shelf-ready services and Interlibrary Loans, as well as leading our dedicated Bibliographic Services team.

As a leader within our organization, you will embody our core values and foster a culture of achievement, collaboration, and excellence. Additionally, you'll work collaboratively across departments to ensure that our services align with the diverse needs of our community.

We're looking for a forward-thinking individual who is committed to delivering outstanding customer service and staying abreast of the latest trends and best practices in Bibliographic Services. You'll be responsible for managing shelf-ready services and Interlibrary Loans, developing policies and processes, and providing expert advice on Library Management Systems and database management. With a keen eye for budget management and risk assessment, you'll ensure that our services represent the best value for our community.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Tertiary qualification in appropriate discipline such as Librarianship, Management and/or 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with coaching skills to develop team capabilities, team cohesion and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
  • Experience in managing shelf-ready services, good knowledge of standard cataloguing and authority control tools.
  • Demonstrated strategic knowledge of library collection management.
  • Proven knowledge of Library Management Systems, such as Spydus, and sources of bibliographic data, including Libraries Australia.
  • Ability to manage time, plan, and organize own work effectively, while also adeptly navigating challenging situations to deliver optimal outcomes.
  • Ability to display empathy and understanding with all sections of the community, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and people with disabilities.
