About the role

As the Bid & Proposal Manager, you will be responsible for formulating competitive bids/estimates/quotations, considering the best available product mix and appropriate technical and commercial considerations for each project with the key responsibilities including:

  • Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to understand customer needs and provide any necessary technical support to Sales Managers during technical meetings with customers
  • Manage the preparation of all technical (e.g. defining the most suitable technology and product type(s)), financial (e.g. total price sheet, cash flow analysis), and project management (e.g. quantifies hours of engineering and commissioning) aspects of the bid/estimate/quotation
  • Manage external services to support bid/estimation preparation such as translations and governmental approvals
  • Ensure tenders are well documented including full and accurate costs
  • Report on the status of the bids/estimates/quotations using defined tools
  • Collect and analyse tender win/loss data including offer/order and records assumptions and decisions taken during the development process
  • Identify potential risks in the bids, quotations, and estimates, and in any related contract agreements across customers/channels
  • Collect/collate all information needed to prepare the proposal, including both technical and cost elements
  • Structure the bids/estimates/quotations in order to meet the financing requirements
  • Identify potential vendors for equipment and materials required in the project and technically evaluates supplier offers to check match with specifications

As an integral member of the broader Business Development team, the Pursuit Engagement Manager / Bid Manager will focus on the management of the pitch and proposal process, from initiation to implementation, to ensure a professional and polished delivery, to include:

  • Development and delivery of best practice policies relating to bids
  • Collation of relevant background data and materials
  • Creative and strategic input to the production of pitch/ proposals
  • Supporting and coaching the bid team
  • Assessment of feedback and provision of appropriate de-brief
  • Provision of regular reporting on sales activity, performance, and initiatives
  • Liaison with the business development managers, to ensure they are kept informed of planned activities, and provide help and guidance to them and their fee earners as required
  • Ensure that various databases of pre-written content and other standard information are kept up-to-date and relevant and manage the development of specific bids
  • Provide relevant competitive intelligence through compiling monthly competitive intelligence updates for Oceania

To secure this opportunity you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience leading complex bids for energy storage, microgrids, and other distributed energy resources (DERs)
  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to analysis, negotiate and collaborate across all levels of the organisation
  • High-level proposal execution through knowledge of bid processes from qualification, negotiations, and procurement
  • Exceptional project management to develop and drive tender and bid strategies
