Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) is the recently established single operator of NSW Government cemeteries and crematoria, overseeing the management and operations of 8 Memorial Parks across the Sydney and Hunter regions. These parks serve as places of reflection, offering support for people to grieve, celebrate life, and remember their loved ones.
Role Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced operations leader to to join our Burials team at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park. Reporting directly to the Cemetery Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations, fostering a positive work culture, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional service standards. Your role will involve leading a team of experienced and skilled burial service operators and utilising their contributions, with your initiative, to innovate and optimise burial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directing and coordinating daily burial operations, including planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Conducting site inspections and providing specialised advice on burials, exhumations, and other related inquiries.
- Collaborating with the Customer Care team and external stakeholders to address customer needs effectively.
- Providing hands-on assistance in all weather conditions, including grave digging and inventory management.
- Reviewing permit applications and overseeing burial paperwork administration.
- Delivering on-the-job training, mentoring, and performance management for team members.
- Managing staff performance issues in conjunction with your manager and in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Managing team schedules, rostering, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ensuring all legislative requirements of the Industry Interment Scheme (IIS) are met.
- Ensuring the care and security of all plant, equipment and tools.
Requirements:
- Minimum 6 years’ demonstrated experience in an operational leadership role.
- Knowledge of cemetery operations or a strong interest in MMP's services.
- Hold a White Card (or willing to obtain) and certifications in chainsaw operation, excavator and bobcat.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s licence.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety standards and cultural diversity.
- First Aid Certificate to act as a nominated first responder.
- Ability to work with limited supervision within general guidelines & exercise significant discretion.
