This has to be 2024’s most exciting local government CFO opportunity.
The Alexandrina region is uniquely positioned in the picturesque Southern Fleurieu Peninsula at the end of the river Murray and as a gateway to the iconic Coorong. It is within an easy drive from metropolitan Adelaide – just over an hour from Adelaide’s CBD.
The Alexandrina Council area comprises of 182,684 hectares. It extends from the north-western side of Lake Alexandrina to the Murray Mouth and the western end of the Coorong - taking in river communities of Langhorne Creek, Milang, Clayton Bay, Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island. It extends along the south coast to Port Elliot and Middleton and inland to Mount Compass and Strathalbyn.
This key Executive Leadership role reports directly to the CEO and has been created to provide strategic financial advice and bounce around ideas to the Executive Leadership Team, Elected Members and organisation, ensuring timely financial management reporting, compliance, commercial and strategic insight, operational improvement, and organisational growth.
Initially a more hands on approach will be required to develop technical capability and capacity and enhance service delivery across the Finance Team. Thereafter it is envisaged the role will evolve into a more strategic business partnering role and trusted advisor to the CEO and key stakeholders, as key goals and objectives are achieved.
Some of the key deliverables will include:
- Develop a leading practice finance function and team.
- Develop a strong customer service and values focused culture within the Finance Department, providing service to both internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Manage, monitor & oversee an operational $60m budget and oversight of all capital projects (currently over $20m).
- Review and implement efficient financial systems and processes.
- Utilise and drive the enhanced functionality that is now available with the soon to be implemented TechnologyOne CiAnywhere Corporate System.
- Refresh and reset the Annual Budgeting, Reporting, Asset Management Plan and Long Term Financial Planning processes.
- Embed financial sustainability, ideas creation and future planning into the Council’s Strategic Plan to be reviewed in late 2024.
Minimum CA or CPA qualified, a proven track record in a commensurate level role with a strong change management, business improvement and technology focus will be essential.
Dynamic and inspiring leadership qualities, outstanding communication skills, and the highest levels of professionalism, integrity and credibility will be critical.
Experience from local government or a large diversified corporation with a strong service delivery and governance focus is preferred.
