Our client is a private landholder of Australian agricultural assets who has acquired 17 properties in eastern Australia since 2007, covering over 60,000 hectares. The portfolio is strategically located throughout several different climatic regions and production systems, producing a variety of commodities, including prime lambs, wool, cattle, broadacre cropping of cereals and oilseeds, and irrigated cotton and sugar. We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on person with experience in managing cattle and sheep-focused grazing systems. You will be required to lead and mentor the team in running the daily operations across the properties, plus be able to plan, budget, and report on performance adequately. Reporting to the CEO, you will be a key person in developing and implementing the planning of operations, allowing for scaling up and developing livestock numbers, systems, and strategies for the property and delivering the desired outcomes for the operation.
The Role
This role provides leadership and direction across two properties located east of Walcha, NSW, on the edge of the northern Tablelands. With a commitment to fully developing the farms, it would be ideal if you were a visionary with property development experience. The properties are currently running 1,150 Angus breeders plus followers and 2,200 composite ewes, and combined, they cover 2,400 hectares. As Farm Manager, you are to ensure the operation is run in a sustainable and safe manner and the business production objectives are met. You will be dedicated to and take ownership in optimizing the enterprise as a key driver for productivity and profit for the business; you will achieve this with a hands-on work ethic.
You will work within the senior management guidelines to provide leadership and operational support to achieve identified commercial business outcomes through effective management. This will include working with the Area Manager, advisors, contractors, and staff on the day-to-day operations of the livestock and pasture enterprises while operating within the companies’ budgets, QA, and WH&S policies. Ultimately, it will be your responsibility to drive the success of the property, work towards strategic goals, and pull this farm enterprise together.
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years working within the industry (or similar), with at least three years served in a livestock management role.
- Corporate farming experience is advantageous.
- Deliver high-quality, results-oriented farm and livestock management.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to employees with positive results.
- Recruit, lead and maintain a team of farm staff, demonstrating hands-on leadership.
- Diligent future planning, budget, and cost control with full accountability.
- Work with the management team to develop goals, plans, and budgets for the enterprise.
- Overseeing implementation of enterprise goals, plans, and budgets.
- Work closely with the CEO and external consultants for agronomy, inputs, and livestock marketing.
- Thorough and transparent reporting of outcomes.
- Make decisions that ensure the best use of resources for a profitable and sustainable future.
- Leadership of Workplace, Health, and Safety for the farms.
