General Manager Club Services & Heritage - Melbourne Cricket Club
The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has the public responsibility of managing one of the largest and the most successful stadiums in Australia and the world – the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The MCG is more than just a stadium, it’s an Australian icon and a meeting place for generations past, present and future.
The MCG is host to more than 70 major events and attracts over three million visitors annually. The MCC is the largest sporting club in the country with over 150,000 members, approximately 200,000 on the waiting list and also manages 13 sporting sections with participation over 2,600. The Australian Sports Museum (ASM) has its home at the MCG, celebrating Australia’s rich sporting history, which is also managed by the MCC.
An outstanding opportunity exists to join the executive leadership team at the Melbourne Cricket Club, for a General Manager - Club Services and Heritage. This high profile position will be responsible for ensuring MCC members and their guests enjoy memorable and positive experiences through the provision of a range of club services. The breadth of this role also includes oversight of the MCC sporting sections and delivery of numerous heritage assets including the Australian Sports Museum.
Reporting to the CEO, the role has a strong leadership and people focus and will be responsible for driving and maintaining the Club, Membership, Customer Service and Heritage functions and will have oversight and management of the following areas:
MCC Membership operational services, customer service and Tourism
Commercial analysis & development
MCC Club operations, including management of the MCC Members’ Reserve, Club Functions and Special Interest Groups
Museum & Heritage Services including Museums, Archives, Collections and Library
MCC Sporting Sections and governance
To be successful in this role, you will bring energy, collaboration and a clear strength in driving continuous improvement. The position calls for a balance of strategic vision and a willingness to engage in operational management with your team, whilst creating an environment that encourages innovation and brings out the best in others.
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrate the following:
Appropriate tertiary qualifications (e.g. Business/Marketing/Commerce)
Proven capability at a senior executive level, leading and managing a large portfolio
Proven ability working within a customer focussed organisation, with a demonstrated drive and genuine commitment to customer service and engagement
Outstanding leadership capabilities, including the ability to build, develop and maintain a highly engaged and collaborative team
Previous experience working at a senior level in a membership organisation would be highly advantageous
Exemplary stakeholder management skills
Prior exposure and experience dealing with Committees and Board/s
Approachability, respect and a desire to work in an organisation with a strong sense of team
Given the nature of the organisation, there is a requirement to work on selected event days and as such, availability to work on weekends, public holidays and after business hours is a requirement.
