The Head of Internal Communications is a leadership role that forms an important part of the Strategic Communications branch. The role actively partners with the organisation on the planning and delivery of significant internal programs of work that support organisational priorities and strategy.
The Head of Internal Communications is responsible for working with key internal partners to lead the development and delivery of integrated Internal Communications plans that support the organisation’s strategic priorities and change programs. The role is expected to model a high standard of leadership capability, relationship management and complex problem solving.
This position leads a dynamic team that provides advice to the organisation and works collaboratively to ensure a high standard of Internal Communications that fosters an informed, motivated and engaged workforce who can accelerate delivery of the CoM strategy and create a step change in the internal engagement across the organisation.
Working collaboratively with the City Communications team, this role engages with CoM leadership, including the Chief Executive Officer and members of the Executive Leadership Team, to provide advice on matters of Internal Communications to support development and implementation of policy and organisation change.
The role is also responsible for identifying emerging reputational risks and issues and being a member of project working groups on key internal projects including the intranet redevelopment.
What you will bring…
Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence;
A relevant tertiary qualification in Media, Communications or Business with sound knowledge of change management;
Highly developed communication skills and demonstrated extensive relevant experience in developing and executing integrated communication strategies;
Substantial experience in providing advice on matters of high organisational risk and the development of communications solutions to rapidly evolving issues;
A demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and implement evidence-based improvements over time;;
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, including the ability to lead a team and communicate with influence to senior CoM officers including the CEO;
Well-developed management skills with the ability to cultivate a team that integrates seamlessly with other work areas and operates with emotional intelligence and sound judgement on complex and high risk initiatives;
Proven ability to function effectively in a complex and demanding environment, with a high level of personal and team responsibility, and to effectively manage high workloads, tight timelines, and significant and diverse relationships;
Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with all key stakeholders to achieve successful Internal Communications outcomes for CoM’s strategic priorities;
Excellent written communication skills across all mediums.
