About the Role
Reporting to the National Laboratory Operations Manager, the National Next Generation Sequencing Manager is responsible for monitoring, developing, and improving all services delivered on our Illumina platform and supporting our other systems when needed. With expert knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing, extensive laboratory and team management experience, this role ensures consistent service delivery across all platforms by supporting a high performing, client-driven team culture.
Along with ability to manage services within budget, this role requires well developed communication skills to write business and technical reports and documents, develop stakeholder relationships and provide engaging workshops and presentations within the scientific community. This role has at least fifteen direct reports in our Melbourne node but also has oversight of all NGS related work offer across all our sites within AGRF. Further this role shares responsibility for AGRF business performance across Laboratory Operations with Laboratory Operations leadership team colleagues. There is some travel required as part of this role.
What you'll need to succeed:
ESSENTIAL
- M.Sc. or PhD or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology or related fields.
- Expert-level technical knowledge of the Next Generation Sequencing technologies and applications.
- 5+ years directly relevant laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the application of genomic technologies to a broad range of research fields and the ability to provide practical solutions to clients.
- Demonstrated high level written and spoken communication skills in a commercial setting.
- Proven ability to effectively manage people and processes across multiple locations.
- Proven ability to effectively participate in a cross functional team.
- Experience with LIMS and spreadsheet software, and a willingness to learn new systems.
- Expert knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing and high throughput genomics, including operation of sequencers and sample preparation processes.
- Advanced analytical and conceptual capabilities, with a proven track record of rapidly absorbing new concepts and information to devise creative solutions.
- Familiarity with quality assurance standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in genomics laboratory.
- Experience with LIMS and spreadsheet software, and a willingness to learn new systems.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
