Starting in July this year, we’ll be working across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and right down the Mornington Peninsula, delivering routine maintenance, emergency response and defect rectification works, as well as network refurbishment and upgrade projects, under a major long-term contract with the Victorian Government.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Planning & Optimisation (P&O) Manager, the Pre-Works Lead oversees all VRMC Works planning, scheduling preparation and dispatch, so tasks can be carried out “right first time, every time” by the Delivery Team.
Specifically, the Pre-Works Lead is accountable for:
Working closely with the P&O Manager and the Transport division Asset Solutions team to create the annual Routine Maintenance Program
Generating an optimised Routine Maintenance schedule that meets Section 750 requirements, with a rolling 12-month forward view, updated fortnightly
Defining, implementing and continually refining Pre-Works processes in line with Section 750 requirements and data management standards
Coordinating creation and dispatch of all work packs, incorporating traffic management and access requirements, location, scope and other information, to qualified and equipped crews
Onboarding, training and day-to-day activity and performance management of Pre-Works team members
Fostering strong working relationships with colleagues, client representatives, delivery partners, and other internal and external stakeholders
The Pre-Works Lead is a potential successor to the P&O Manager and will have regular opportunities perform this role in an Acting capacity, as part of a structured career development program.
About You:
You’ll have at least five years’ experience in planning and pre-works coordination in a road maintenance or civil works environment, including at least two years’ experience leading a small team of direct reports.
An emerging leader who drives for service excellence and continuous improvement, you’ll demonstrate:
An inclusive approach to managing and developing your team, underpinned by an ability to make best-for-Contract decisions within your span of control
Strong understanding of asset management principles, underpinned by expertise in using asset management / works information management systems, planning and scheduling tools, and Microsoft Excel
Well-developed digital and data analysis skills, including familiarity with AI / ML tools
Detailed knowledge of civil construction and/or road network management practices, including access, permit and licensing requirements for road maintenance operation as well as a strong understanding of TfV specifications and maintenance delivery methodologies
Exceptional time-management skills and a proven ability to maintain effective, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Formal qualifications (Cert IV or higher) in a technical discipline are a bonus, but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent capability and experience.
