Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is a Queensland Statutory Authority established to regulate the building industry and ensure maintenance of proper building standards and remedies for defective building work.
QBCC also serves to educate, protect and support the community and the Industry via licensing and registers, education, dispute resolution and adjudication, enforcing compliance and managing the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme.
Primary purpose of the position
The primary purpose of the Principal Analyst is to provide expert knowledge across the domains of analytics and business intelligence, and to lead the planning, design, development and testing of data science and analytical solutions to meet our business needs.
The aim of this role is to:
- conduct data analysis, modelling, prototyping and experiments;
- perform data mining and provide advice and direction to the Senior Business Intelligence & Analytics Officer and Business Intelligence & Analytics Officers;
- provide business and domain expertise and translate business requirements into use cases and technical solutions that meets desired business outcomes;
- apply machine learning techniques that automatically prescribe answers to business problems that will generate the most beneficial outcome for the QBCC;
- provide understanding of how issues can be addressed with analytics products, extract and communicate meaningful insights, and action solutions to specific problems;
- co-ordinate delivery of analytics projects to embed analytics within the business and enable insight driven decision-making;
- work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders across the organisation to understand current processes and requirements;
- ensure all change proposals, including processes and analytics products, are aligned to QBCC's existing system capabilities and are traceable throughout project lifecycles;
- identify specifications for the implementation of changes in business processes and provide recommendations and guidance to supporting planning and execution of the change management; and
- as a member of the team, undertake tasks allocated by the Manager in a constantly changing work environment to support innovation and efficient delivery.
- Gathers and investigates data and information from diverse sources and explores new ideas and different viewpoints. Uses demonstrated high level expertise to analyse what information is important and how it should be used.
- Approaches discussions with a clear understanding of key issues, understands the desired outcomes, anticipates, and identifies relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns.
- Consults and shares information and ensures others are kept informed of issues. Seeks to understand the audience and tailors' communication style and message accordingly.
- Persists with and focuses on achieving objectives even in difficult circumstances. Remains positive and responds to pressure in a calm manner.
- Expert skills in Tableau and SQL; and
- qualifications in a relevant field.
