Job description

Use your keen eye for process and product quality as a crucial member of our Quality Team. We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join us in this newly created role at Aluminium Industries (Ai).

The Quality Engineer assists with all Quality related elements of the business, including design and documentation of quality systems and processes, improvement of product quality processes, and establishment, implementation, and maintenance of our ISO 9001 Quality Management system.

In this hands-on role, you’ll measure how well each process in manufacturing is performing. This data will be used to develop tactical and strategic responses to quality issues across the business. This includes internal processes, machine and equipment maintenance, and vendor and supplier quality issues.

This is an office-based position with a high-volume co-worker interaction. Some travel within Victoria may be required. You will report to Ai’s Quality Assurance Manager.

This role will evolve as our Quality team grows. We seek someone with career aspirations in Management and demonstrable leadership abilities for this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creation and maintenance of quality documentation and development of SOPs for Ai product
  • Conduct process, product, and ISO audits; identify improvement opportunities
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation
  • Develop and maintain inward inspection plan; conduct/coordinate inspection as per plan
  • Update daily KPI’s board and participate in weekly DMS meetings
  • Work closely with manufacturing team to ensure quality protocols are followed and documentation is correctly maintained; implement changes or adaptations based on a quality review
  • Maintain Ai’s NCR data base
  • Statistical analysis of manufacturing data and creation of reports for senior team members 
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Inspect and test materials, equipment, processes, and products to ensure quality specifications are met
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement quality controls and improvements
  • Evaluate the final output of products to determine their quality; evaluate product defects and warranty related non-conformances
  • Reject products that fail quality standards
  • Resolve production detail discrepancies with sales, design, or customers to ensure that the products are fit for purpose

Essential qualifications, skills, and traits:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, quality assurance, or a similar role
  • In depth knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; highly organised and able to meet documentation requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices, version-control procedures, and defect management processes
  • Adept with WHS laws and legislation
  • Physically able to walk the factory floor, climb stairs, and lift and carry boxes
  • Computer proficiency, including database management
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to drive and travel within Victoria
  • Effective communication and building effective relationships
  • Ability to drive Quality improvements with both production and process changes 
  • Assertive with a positive attitude
  • Rights to live and work in Australia

Desirable qualifications, skills, and traits:

  • Lean certification, Six Sigma etc 
  • CAD Skills
  • Professional certification, such as Internal auditor for ISO 9001:2015
  • Experience in 6S, KAIZEN, Lean principles implementation
