Ampac specialises in the design, manufacture and distribution of fire detection and alarm systems. These systems are used all over the world to save lives and prevent catastrophic damage caused by fire.
As part of Ampac’s ongoing innovation and continuous improvement initiatives, they require a tertiary qualified self-motivated individual with leadership experience and proven successes as a R&D Manager to lead our Research and Development teams – both local and remote.
This role is based in Perth, Western Australia, and requires a candidate who has a deep, broad, and real hand experience in electronic product development with a focus on software development and product verification.
About the role:
- Management of product development projects – to agreed timeframes and quality.
- Resourcing and skills – ensure the Research and Development teams have the appropriate skills and resources to successfully carry out the required product development activities. Involves ensuring the teams attend appropriate training courses, have access to relevant test equipment, and software and hardware development tools.
- Processes – ensure both software and hardware development processes are best practice and relevant for the product development activities.
- Product verification – to include automated testing where practical
- Liaise with other departments to support existing products. Includes product maintenance and enhancements as determined by Product Management and product support as required by Production (includes handling component obsolescence)
- Stay current with new and developing software and hardware technologies and implement changes as appropriate to introduce new technologies.
- Management of the R&D teams – including appraisals, career development and recruitment.
- Bachelor's degree in Software/Electronics Engineering, or a related Engineering field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in embedded software and hardware development
- Prior experience in a leadership role.
- A strong passion for coaching and knowledge development.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
