Exciting opportunity to join Rio Tinto Energy Development Pacific team
Apply your analytical skill set and commercial acumen to support Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation journey
Brisbane based position with flexible work options available
As one of the world’s largest industrial users of energy, Rio Tinto has a unique challenge in the energy transition. Rio Tinto Energy & Climate (RTEC) is a new global team focused on prioritising and accelerating our decarbonisation efforts to deliver on our climate commitments while ensuring our business is well positioned for the future low-carbon economy. Led by the Chief Decarbonisation Officer, the Energy & Climate team works collaboratively across the business to drive delivery of the Group climate strategy and address our key sources of carbon emissions.
About the role
The Senior Commercial Analyst role will sit within RTED Pacific team. RTED Pacific includes Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand and represents a naturally advantaged region for low-cost renewable energy, creating significant opportunities for Rio Tinto. The Pacific Energy Development team will enable new energy solutions to be delivered in these four locations, reducing scope 1 and 2 footprint, enabling future growth and protecting the cost position of existing assets. The energy solutions will be delivered in partnership and require an understanding of both the renewable industry and commercial agreements.
As we continue to build upon this key part of our business, we are now looking for a Senior Analyst – Commercial. Reporting to the Manager Portfolio Development, this role is predominately accountable for undertaking financial modelling and providing commercial insights to support business case development . Key role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Building and developing robust, fit for purpose financial models to support development of the business case and support negotiations ( e.g. Power purchase agreement, debt and equity transactions)
Maintaining, updating and improving RTED Pacific project financial models as well as portfolio financial models
Interpret financial model outputs and convey key commercial insights to stakeholders
Supporting transaction due diligence and deal execution process as required
Preparing proposals for investment committee submissions encompassing key insights and recommendations
This position will ideally be based in our Brisbane, or Perth office. This newly created position can offer a number of flexible work arrangement options including flexible hours, part time, or job share arrangements.
About you
Demonstrated experience in building robust financial models from ground up is key
Background in a transactional environment in a Big 4 accounting firm or project finance or investment bank is desirable
Experience in and good understanding of renewable energy projects will be advantageous
Exceptional attention to detail, highly developed analytical skills and ability to challenge assumptions
Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to build relationships and excellent writing skills
Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a small and dynamic team
This is an exciting time at Rio Tinto and we are looking for an open minded and collaborative team member to come and join us. You will get to partner with this forward-thinking business, demonstrating your resourceful ideas at all levels and with various stakeholders.
If you have a clear appreciation of the business impact this role has and can couple this with demonstrated capability, care and credibility, then we would love to see your application.
