About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a hard working, highly motivated and proactive Assistant Venue Manager to join the Lumber Punks team in South Melbourne. As the Assistant Venue Manager you will be responsible for actively supporting the Venue Manager, and managing the needs of the Venue and Staff, as well as actively assisting to develop and grow the business to meet our unique Punk ethos. Availability days, nights and weekends is essential. Full training provided. You will be required to;
- Demonstrate proven success in team management skills
- Exhibit sound financial knowledge and awareness to maximise the profitability of the business
- Engage with external agencies and stakeholders for stock replenishment and venue repair
- Target key staff for active development opportunities to grow the business from within
- To promote and grow the brand name by monitoring and engaging local area opportunities
- Provide safety instruction to all guests and ensure equipment is in working condition prior to throwing sessions
- Welcome guests with an enthusiastic, authentic greeting, including check-in, waiver sign-in etc
- Provide captivating axe throwing instruction at the beginning of each session
- Coach by offering guidance throughout axe throwing sessions
- Effectively manage interactive tournaments/games
- Entertain, energize and engage your groups by reading people and communicating accordingly
- Promote provided marketing and promotional initiatives and solicit referrals as needed
Job Requirements
- Can operate autonomously
- Able to effectively oversee opening and closing duties, manage point of sale and cash handling, and effectively manage the roster and staff hours in accordance with the needs of the business.
- Focus on day to day duties and an ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of venue policy and procedure.
- Creative thinker in a fast-paced environment
- Energetic, outgoing and entertaining individual
- Professional and well-spoken in front of large or small groups
- Confident, outgoing, and able to assertively deal with large groups of customers
- Highly safety conscious with a strong attention to detail
- Loves to entertain, put on a show and can engage with our guests
- Excellent time management skills
- Able to rapidly acquire competence in: Vantora Booking software (training provided), Xero Accounting suite (training provided), Microsoft Office suite (training provided), Squarespace (training Provided).
- Great attitude and likes to learn
- Can quickly interpret customers needs and handle complaints
- Is very comfortable managing a team and making strong decisions.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, you will regularly be required to:
- Be friendly and able to smile frequently
- Be physically capable of, at times, heavy repetitious manual lifting
- Have or obtain a basic knowledge of tools such as: drills, impact drivers, batten screws, stencils, spray paint
- Work days, nights, and/or weekends as required
- Work in a noisy, fast paced environment with distracting conditions
- Read and write handwritten notes
- Walk or stand 100% of shift

Skills and experience
No Axe Throwing experience necessary full training provided however the following would be advantageous
- A background in Management and training
- Experienced staff leader with displayed experience (1-3 years) in people leadership, task delegation, monitoring of task completion, and development of staff in response to performance
- A strong communicator with the ability to build rapport with a diverse and energetic group of staff while maintaining professional boundaries
- Previous experience in Hospitality (Advantageous)
- A passionate and inquisitive mind that can explore and develop expertise in a niche activity
- First Aid certified
- RSA or willing to obtain
- A sporting background is a bonus but not essential
- Blue card or willing to obtain
- The ability to read people and adjust demeanour depending on the situation
- Social media knowledge is a bonus but not essential
- Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills
- Experience at Public Speaking
- A strong sense of humour
- Someone who values fun, good hustle, and commitment to the team
