Job description

WUNGENING ABORIGINAL CORPORATION - Healing Mind, Body & Spirit

ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PROPLE ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Our organisation is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. We require all applicants to undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment.

If you have a deep passion for contributing to Aboriginal-led programs that uphold self-determination and promote healing, then we are the perfect employer for you.

As Western Australia's leading and most progressive Aboriginal Corporation, we are actively seeking experienced and dedicated individuals to join our Family Support service, Wungening Moort in our Rockingham and Midland offices.

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

For nearly 35 years, Wungening has led the way with culturally secure programs. Our core focus is addressing the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs on individuals, families and communities.

To heal mind, body and spirit, we proudly provide:

  • Alcohol and other drug programs
  • A refuge for women and children escaping family violence
  • A culturally responsive emergency relief program
  • Reintegration and accommodation support (justice)

We also lead a suite of cross-agency alliances, supporting:

  • Reintegration into community after release from prison
  • In-home support services aimed at keeping children safe at home
  • Pathways to housing for the homeless
  • Out of Home Care Services

Committed to Aboriginal-led solutions, our board of directors and CEO are all Aboriginal people. We currently work from 14 metro locations and employ over 200 staff.

Join us in achieving our vision: healthy communities our way.

ABOUT WUNGENING MOORT

Every Aboriginal child living safely with their family

It is our belief that there is no safer place for our children than living with their family. This stems from the understanding that Aboriginal families and communities at their core are inherently safe. Sadly, colonisation diluted traditional culture to such a level that a lack of safety, stability, violence, drugs and alcohol have become the norm. This is problematic for our children and has led to an overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in Out of Home Care (OOHC).

It is our goal to lead the solution to this issue. We aim to heal our community from the inside out and guide our families to nurture moorditj djerripin koorlungas (strong happy children).

Reporting to the Wungening Moort Coordinator, these positions will work within the Wungening Moort Aboriginal In-Home Support Service (AISS). This service is delivered through a Consortium of four Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, comprising Ebenezer Aboriginal Corporation, Moorditj Koort, Coolabaroo Community Services, and led by the Wungening Aboriginal Corporation.

ABOUT THE ROLES

You will work alongside Senior Moort Case Workers and Aboriginal Moort Support workers to provide intensive support and case management to the most vulnerable Aboriginal families in the Perth Metropolitan area. Your focus will be to work with families to nurture moorditj djerripin koorlungas (strong happy children).

You will work through a process of engagement, assessment and planning, intensive support and step down, promoting self-determination and family participation in all aspects of service delivery. You will promote healing within the family system by promoting family and cultural connection, while providing a mix parenting, advocacy and practical in-home support. The support you provide will assist parents/caregivers to resolve personal and family issues and build resilience and capacity to respond to crisis, create a safe, protective environment for their children and improve connectedness to the community.

This will enable the service to deliver the outcomes prescribed by our funding body:

  • Families improve parenting skills to safely care for their children
  • Families address issues that impact negatively on their children
  • Families develop skills and get their children to school
  • Families improve and develop culturally safe support networks

You will be an active contributor to the continuous improvement of the service, model practice excellence and promote the learning and development of your colleagues.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • A qualification in a relevant area at Diploma level or higher OR minimum 2 years’ experience providing clinical case management to vulnerable and difficult to engage families.
  • Ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families to promote healing and family safety and wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of the issues and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children in contact with the child protection system.
  • Demonstrated communication, facilitation and negotiation skills including written, oral and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and act decisively.
