About the opportunity

Southern Cross University's esteemed Faculty of Health is seeking casual Technical Assistants and Technical Officers to support the practical delivery of undergraduate education in Nursing, Midwifery and other health labs as required. In these rewarding behind-the-scenes roles, you will be an instrumental part of the Faculty’s Technical and Laboratory Services group, providing technical support for students, academic staff, researchers and clinicians whilst maintaining the proficient functioning of the laboratories, studios and student teaching clinics.

Responsibilities will include setting up and dismantling practical classes, conducting high-fidelity simulations, and supporting the needs of students and academics. About you

The ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with a minimum of two years’ experience in a nursing/midwifery Technical Officer role, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Demonstrated practicality, flexibility and have a proactive approach to your work, welcoming new learning and problem-solving opportunities.
  • Proficiency in clinical knowledge and providing technical support for hospital and clinical technologies to create and manage realistic simulated clinical environments for practical classes, research, and other activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a collaborative teamwork mindset.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining high-fidelity simulation mannequins, electronic devices, and software applications will be viewed favourably.

These positions are based at our Gold Coast campus.

The casual hourly rate of a Technical Assistant (HEW 4) ranges between $47.55-$51.06 plus superannuation. The casual hourly rate of a Technical Officer (HEW 5) ranges between $52.63-58.49 per hour plus superannuation.

Offering flexibility in hours, these positions are on a casual basis and up to 35 hours per week.
