Spring Gully Foods (SGF) is an Adelaide based food manufacturer specialising in pickled vegetables, pickles, relishes, sauces, and honey. The company started in 1946 and was incorporated as Spring Gully Pickles in 1966 by representatives from three families.
SGF’s flagship brand, Spring Gully, began when founder Ted McKee gifted pickled onions to customers of the produce he grew in Adelaide’s foothills. As Ted’s onions grew to become more popular amongst local grocers, he established a pickling shed at his home in Rostrevor and expanded the product range to include gherkins, pickles, and sauces. The recipes developed by Ted and the early founders for the Spring Gully brand are still in market today.
As the business matured and became more established in the South Australian market, ventures into neighbouring states began and during the 1980’s the brand grew and was sold across Australia.
SGF has acquired two additional brands: Gardener and Leabrook Farms. The Gardener brand is a value brand offering affordable and great tasting honey, jam, and relishes. Gardner’s range of products is available at Woolworths nationally. Leabrook Farms is a premium honey brand acquired from the Coopers Brewery in the early 2000’s and has since expanded its range into pickle vegetable.
To scale its operation, SGF began collaborating with retailers and other manufacturers to produce quality products under contract arrangements. The business now operates in five market segments within the food manufacturing sector: retail, food service, private label, industrial and co-manufacture; supplying some of the country’s largest manufacturers and retailers.
